Grrr! Within 6 weeks of getting a hybrid bike to replace the old MTB I used to use for commuting, I had a visit from the dreaded PF on my way to work this morning. To make matters worse the multitool in my bag could not give me sufficient leverage to loosen the wheel so had to push the bike all the way home. I have scooshed some slime in the innertube to try to prevent it happening again but I am seriously considering asking the LBS to upgrade my tyres at the 6 week "check up". Thing is the old MTB tyres were cheap as chips from a big supermarket but the 700C tyres look decidedly pricey! I've done less than 200 miles on the new bike and am reluctant to shell out for new tyres so soon. Couldn't see any obvious foreign body when I inspected the tyre but suppose it probably fell out on the 3 miles or so I walked the bike home.
I am concerned that walking the bike back might have pinched the inner tube do you guys think I should replace it?
Thanks for listening, I just had to get the pu***ure out of my system!

I had a visit from the fairy on my very first ride! with no tools or tubes on me it was a hard lesson to learn (and a long walk) but then I didnt get another for about 8 months. mind you I then got a couple in a row and switched to Conti's, which also had a visit within about 150 miles.
Fairies are known for their sense of 'humor'.

I can donate an unwanted Schwalbe Marathon plus in 700x28 if you want it? I think there's also some other forumites with different width Armadillos / Marathon Plusses also going spare.
If you're worried about your tube, just remove it and inflate it a bit to see if there's any nicks in it under some water.

Depends how sharp your rims are. I'd stick a new tube in for now and watch the old one carefully for a bit after patching and re-inflating to check for other damage.
I found my most recent 700*25C Armadillo for £18.79 online, a good few quid cheaper than the local stockist. I'm happy paying that for their apparent puncture resistance (I've tweezered lots of glass, flinty grit and seashells out of the treads which all failed to penetrate deeper) and the resultant peace of mind offered when a trundle over some glass is unavoidable. If you've the frame clearance then Marathons Plus are the way to go, if your tyre levers are sufficiently metal-cored.

I have a Marathon plus 700x28 going spare too. Anyone's welcome to it.

Gosh! you guys are really generous!
I've patched and put slime stuff in inner tube, will see if repair is holding up later.
Going to buy a better spanner/multitool for next time.Posted 13 years ago # -
Hey, wait a minute! I have a couple of lightly used 700x25 Marathon Pluses going free too (around the Kings Buildings, after office hours) :-)
They are an absolute pain to put on the rim, but once on, only cockroaches and your inner tubes will survive armageddon...
The inner tube is unlikely to be damaged in my experience. However, you'll know once you patch it and blow it up.

...sorry to jump in but if tammytroot don't want 'em I'd happily take your marathon pluses Dave...... Looking for a super tough tyre for when I do the eroica in october. ;-)

No problem. One shows slight wear (compared with the other) but neither ever punctured and have a few thousand miles left, at a guess.
I've updated the swap shop thread, if you're still interested give me a shout.
