@IWRATS - now those are my kinda brakes! Stop on a sixpence, more like stop on a subatomic particle! If only I'd had those on Saturday...

£88 and you're sorted. No wheel change. I've got one on the rear of my hybrid and you can lock that wheel on tarmac quite casually. They're so powerful I suspect you could break the seat stays if you really went for it, but that's maybe not a recommendation....

  3. Its free, but its not necessarily bike related...

I've an 8ftish tall Bay tree that needs to go. Its not so much free to a good home as free to anyone who can be bother digging it up and taking it away!

I have a spare ticket, reserved seat and bike reservation on the 19:19 Berwick-upon-Tweed to Edinburgh train on Saturday 18 March, for reasons too embarrassing to share in public (but linked to buying two by accident).

I've got the physical tickets, which you can collect from me in Morningside.

It's an APEX ticket (specified train only, no refunds) and it cost the princely sum of £5.50.

Would be the good basis for a ride into the Borders on that day. Yours in exchange for a Snickers bar or similar.

    PM me if interested.

Nope. One reservation is seat 16A and the other is 22A. You can steam quietly on the other side of the carriage.

Edinburgh to Berwick is 55 miles or so, including some classic sights like Redstone Rigg and Whiteadder Reservoir. If you time it right you'll get to Berwick just as it starts to get dark (sunset 18:20 that day) and have time to grab some chips before catching the train.

I don't know if this is the right place for this wee ad, but I thought I would offer this on here before hawking it on the likes of YACF, Gumflea and so on.

1980s vintage Brooks Professional S saddle, copper rails. Copper rivets too though these have taken on the appearance of brass due to oxidisation and proofide. Leather colour somewhere between honey and a darker brown. You can tell the age of the saddle from the name badge, which features a modified Sturmey Archer typeface rather than the usual Helvetica.

I took this from a Thorn Brevet I purchased a couple of years ago. Previous owner owned bike and saddle from new, and the saddle has seen very little use I'd say. Not really broken in properly!

The equivalent model (Team Pro S copper rails) is over £100 new. Looking for £75.

If interested PM me on here before 11th March, after which I shall advertise it elsewhere.

Okay, another item. Still not sure if we're supposed to put these on here, but here goes...

    Carradice Overlander double front panniers

An unusual set of twin panniers from Carradice of Nelson, from the Overlander range, in red and black Cordura fabric. These are small front panniers, perhaps designed to drape over a platform style front rack. Could also be used as a lightweight rear pannier set to supplement a saddle bag. These date from the late 1980s or early 1990s judging by the label.

Completely unused item, still with original tags. Has been stored for many years. I acquired these as new old stock (NOS) from a bike shop clearance a few years ago. Never got around to using them, so they have to go.

Lightweight, with the usual Carradice build quality. Fastens to the bike rack by way of nylon webbing straps and plastic buckles. Webbing carry strap on top. Bags close by means of cord drawstrings through eyelets, then storm flaps with straps and buckles. The storm flaps extend over the ends of the bags to keep water, dust out. Nylon outer has a rubberised internal waterproofing treatment. Inner surface which faces wheels is a strong black plastic weave material, presumably very waterproof. At base of each pannier is a rigid strengthening plate to help bags keep their shape when fiull.

    Internal dimensions of each pannier:

Width: 22 cm (tapering to 20cm at the bottom)
    Height: 26cm
Depth: 12cm (though will expand at to to around 16cm max at the top)

Central strip for placing on rack is 11cm wide by 22cm long. There is a strap and buckle to fasten to the end of the rack top.

I can well imagine this would be a useful piece of kit for lightweight cycle touring, perhaps used with a dry bag or stuff sac liner in each pannier.

As stated, completely unused. Looking for £25, collect Abbeyhill.

Just found that one of my stockpile of brake pads are the wrong type. One pair of KoolStop Dura2 road-caliper-style pads therefore available. Free to collect or £1 to have delivered within the city or Porty/Mburgh at my convenience.

Gembo-I was having a shed clear out and find that I have Tiagra 9 speed shifters RHS and LHS(LHS is a triple). They are a bit scratched on top but work absolutely fine. I have not used them for a few years so if you want them you are welcome. Otherwise they will go to the Bikestation.

@GDR yes please as if I end up with too many I happen to know the bike station has no 9 spd shifters so I will reroute them there if my ebay bidder comes up with the goods before I tell him to stand down.

Nice to also clinch that opnlyo the LHS need be a triple which is of course logical.

PM me if you fancy arranging for me to collect?

    Carradice Zipped Roll

A versatile practical saddle bag for carrying the essentials.
    - Fits to saddle or handlebars with 3 leather straps
    - 2 litre capacity
    - Main enclosure is zipped - very secure - with a press-stud flap over the top to keep out the rain.
    - Made from bulletproof heavy cotton duck which is waterproof
    - Reflective logo for extra visibility in the dark
    - 14cm cm diameter x 30cm wide
    - Weight 310g

Hardly used, I did half a dozen rides in dry weather with this bag, and since then has been in storage. Not a speck of dirt or grime on it. Essentially like brand new.

Note this was bought direct from Carradice as a ‘factory second’. Please see pictures: there is a very small hole in the cotton duck near one of the press studs, presumably the lady making it misjudged the alignment of the studs first time around. Does not affect the functionality of the bag whatsoever and is covered by the top flap when in use. Otherwise bag is perfect.

Great wee bag but I’m not using it so has to go.

Retailing around £40 new, asking £25.

@crowriver - both your Carradice items are very tempting! But collection might be an issue unless you can hang on to them till POP.

@sallyhinch, the panniers sold last week I'm afraid. I have a couple of folk interested in the zipped roll: if they don't follow through then I'll let you know. Can post for an extra £3, if it's still available.

Yeah I clicked on this the minute it came up as I want them but it just jumps to their homepage so they must be out of stock instantly?

@GDR - you don't have a set in your shed I can buy? Huge thanks to GDR who supplied me with the 9 speed tiagra shifter saving me £132 new (though Bike station did subsequently locate same via the good offices of Monsieur IWRATS again huge thanks).

I have 2 brand new Schwalbe Marathon Performance Line Greenguard tyres for sale, I bought them for my wife's bike but they're the wrong size, didn't check the sizing carefully enough!

    They are 37-590, 26 x 1 3/8.

I took the cardboard label off one of them and started putting it on the rim of the bike before realising it was the wrong size. Otherwise the tyre is brand new and the other one still has the label on.

They cost me £37.50 for the pair, looking for £30 - PM me if you're interested.
