Don't know if it is related but the roads all seemed very congested this morning.

Min - I think it is pre-end of financial year roadworks everywhere causing the congestion and a bit of rain. It takes very little to cause congestion in Edinburgh - a bin lorry here, a vehicle trying to turn right there because there are way too many cars on the road but we know that and can't quite convince enough people to give it up, but we can still try. The Bike Station came to my work, serviced my bike for nowt, gave us all bus tickets, cycle maps based on the Spokes One, cycle computers - the lot. Thanks to Sarah and James from the Bike Station, much appreciated.

True. Two vehicles trying to quintuple park on North St Andrew Street didn't help either.

Of course there are plenty of other ways to get to the shopping sheds by bike. Unfortunately the designated cycling on the pavement is hardly fit for purpose.

Apparently there aren't any bike racks either. But then there aren't any in Princes Street.

(Should this be in the 'will Edinburgh ever be a WCCC' thread??)

It seemed open yesterday. But is there something up in Brunstfield today? Traffic totally blocked up at holy corner heading towards Brunstfield, and then Melville Drive backed up to MMW as well. Made me think there must have been something going on in B'field or Tollcross?

    That'll be a nightmare.

Presume shut to pedestrians too (on one side) so less room for pushing bikes.

    UPDATE

thanks for message. We believe that pedestrian access will be maintained in both directions.

Drumsheugh Gardens has been horrible heading east to join the bridge whilst they've been messing about with Queensferry Street at the end of Melville. The twistings and widenings/narrowings of Belford Road over the bridge are unpleasant even in light traffic.

Wonder exactly where the cut-off will be... hopefully the Lynedoch Place cut-through will still be open and perhaps even Bell's Brae, if you don't mind slowing for the cobbles downhill then heading back up Dean Path.

Shandwick Place: the non-bus westbound lane which appears just west of the Lothian Road/Queensferry Street junction is coned-off as far as Jessops, causing a few extra seconds to get through the lights from Princes Street (possibly more if there are any buses stopping)...

Merchiston Avenue (middle section) closed this morning with a diversion in place and temporary traffic lights. Hopefully this is for resurfacing.

Perhaps the combination of several whoraria, Nando's and a hot summer day was too much.

'As signed' not really that helpful.
