Given up checking to see if threads are in the 'right' place.

    But since you ask...

I took a straw pole today on my way in from Dalgety Bay. I saw cyclists every ~5 mins heading the Opp way. Not one nodded back at me until I was at Cramond Brig!

I notice more people smile back or nod in Edinburgh when I was heading along the cycle route to Crewe toll, than those heading out to the Forth Road bridge the bridge side of Cramond Brig.

Also spotted some poor sole at the old Park n Ride at North Queensferry fixing a puncture. I doubled back to see if he needed help, but he'd just fixed it and was about to put the wheel back on.

Almost everyone I've passed over the past two mornings on the way in has been a pavement-hopper or RLJer, who deserve only growls rather than greetings. I almost-imperceptibly nodded at some people who were behaving themselves in a red box yesterday evening.

I half thought of starting a thread along the lines of "is it just me or are the numbers of RLJumpers and Pavementcyclists directly proportional to the length of the day and the clememcy of the weather".

Then I thought of course it is, there's more cyclists around. Whether or not as a proportion of all cyclists there are more of them about, that's a different matter.

Was out in the highlands on my home roads the last two days, (my dogs are barkin') and was helloed, waved, waited-for and saluted by nearly everybody.

There was one guy in Alness who bellowed at me from across the street! I shouted back as as I passed I noticed he was opening up a new bike shop. I would have stopped but had a train to catch.

I live in a small rural town, and folks mostly acknowledge one another when passing each other at low speed.

Except for the "serious" cyclists. I know several runners who, knowing I ride, have mentioned how rude cyclists are in not responding to their greetings.

It happened to me just the other day. I was on the shoulder of the road in front of my house, had just gotten off the trike, and was sucking down some water. I saw a cyclist coming up behind me. I waved, and said, hello. His only response was to veer over a bit to avoid me.

A little rude, but on a scale of 10, that's only about a 2 compared to what happens on the roads around here on a daily basis.

Was passed by a serious looking cyclist on a Trek drop bar effort on the innocent this morning. Gave him a courteous "morning" as he passed. Caught up with him at the toucan crossing at Forkenfords. He said I'd restored his faith in Edinburgh cyclists. He was fed up greeting fellow cyclists only to be ignored.

I find as soon as you leave the city limits that all stops *shrug*

I received four whole returned waves/nods from cyclists this afternoon along with two thankses from pedestrians (presumably for my exemplary bell-usage) and an offer of something from the barbecue from the garden of one of the houses backing into the Telford Path, where I'd stopped to remove a twig from my rear hub, which I politely declined.

Have noticed an increased frequency of return waves and hellos recently, I think the sunshine has cheered people up
