...no not for a new bike, but just a few items I need for tonight.

I popped down to my LBS The Bike Chain, on Rodney St. Its a nicely laid out shop, with plenty to stare at. In Front is the parts & spares with a few road bikes & one on one of those trainer things and in the back are bikes on stands. I've not been before so was curious to see what its like. I was served by the delightfull Dasha (Sp??). I needed a bike bottle as I'd forgotten mine this morning and I've been invited to a 2 - 3 hour ride out tonight with old friends. I also got good advice on some energy juice in powder form, so I can keep it at work, to save me bringing in a second bottle of juice in the morning.

I also got a couple of punctures recently :-( so I got a couple of inner tubes. I wasn't sure of the size (I never am) so after telling Dasha my make and model she quickly found what I needed.

I heard them in the back office talking about getting ready for The Bike Show next weekend. Its nice to see local shops bothered to turn up at these events, especially considering the conference centres charge a small fortune for very basic floor space, and with more competition from online bike shops hitting LBS' hard margins are thin these days.

Support your local bike shop, is what I always say!

I thought you mean shopping like these people, nipping down to their local supermarket. Although going to your LBS is more fun...

We're way ahead of you there on threads raving about The Bike Chain...

And not all of them started by The Bike Chain either!

Funnily enough had someone in the pub the other night moaning that they had been in and had been treated badly. She reckoned that it was to elitist. I said I'd only heard good things about it but had never been in since it was city cycles.......

Hmm I didn't find it elitist. I've been in another bike shop (near Newington) which one would imagine was elitist as it specialises in very sports road/cyclocross bikes, but in fact were very friendly and very welcoming. The Bike Chain has all sorts of bikes includinga one with VERY fat tyres (akin to a motor bike) like the one in the most recent issue of CityCycling online. I had a nice look at it. Plus they have (sorry don't know the make) what I can only describe as Pashley'esk bike in cream etc...

Some folk don't feel welcomed unless they are approached straight away by staff, whilst others don't want to be bothered.

That'll be the Surly Pugsley and is indeed the same as the one on CC.

That'll be the electra cruiser bikes.

    elitist
If by elitist they mean they are very good at what they do and do it very well, and want to be good and strive to be better at it, then why not? It's not a dirty word. Nothing bad with wanting to be the best at something.

Gotta say that really depresses me.

It's the entire opposite of what I have been trying to do for the past nearly 3years,

We are attending the show in Glasgow as anti usual shiny thing as we possibly can, and we just spent a grand on a full page ad in Cycling Plus pointing out we are juts normal people.

I guess you have to accept you can't win every time?

There's was probably someone in another pub claiming that you weren't elitist enough...

Ah well you know what they say...You can't please all of the people. Some folks like a wee moan.

I'll gonna make a point of checking it out. I've not been in.

    Nah, I'd class elitist as:

"We only seel £1000s bikes which you can't afford and we don't beleive, from looking at your shape, you'd be any good at riding"

Any shop who was elitist would not last long as they'd put off customers.

Keep up the great work thebikechain.
