Last night I met up with a few old collegues at Haymarket to cycle out to the Pentlands via the river path. I've run/cycled along the Colinton Dell section but didn't know how continuous the sections from Murryfield to Colinton were. Its a nice surfaced (in most parts) path which we continued on until its end in Balerno. We then rode up Bravelaw and Mansfield roads to Threipmuir Reservoir. We returned by heading along the west side of the four reservoirs and down through Colinton to pick up the rail line/path again. Then back along the canal to Gillespie's for a pint, just as darkness began to bite.
The canal has changed lots since my last route along it 5 years ago, with tarmac most of the way it seems.
