Anyone heading in early on Friday fancy meeting up at the place on MMW where the A&E used to be?

    7.30 for 8.00?

  2. I'm in. Though I'll likely be there a little earlier, and have to leave a little earlier than recent times.

I should manage this time. No morning duties before work for the next couple of weeks.

It's my payday, so think I can afford a cinnamon bun and a flat white, even at PY prices. :)

I have Friday off but intend to be a) asleep or b) in the wing park with the bairn if the weather is nice c) hungover d) outwith Edinburgh
Also I now work in another part of town (until May it seems) so that is more than a little out of my way now.
Somewhere Lothian Roadish would be good sometime
Or as SRD says a little IPA would be good too :)

I'm working from home on Friday so will try and make it and not just repeatedly hit the snooze button like last time.

I may make this - what does "7.30 for 8.00" mean? Sounds a bit formal.

It means people will be arriving from any point after 730 I think! I'll be towards the 730 timing.

Carrages and Bacon rolls at 08.05.

    Is that formal enough?

Make sure your note-to-self also includes which bike, since you have so many to choose from now. :-)

PS Sorry but a PY no-show from me. I'm too busy coughing up my lungs two or three times every minute, and'll need all my energy to cycle from GLQ to the SECC on Saturday.

  18. I'm unlikely to be there now I'm afraid. Continuing pass problems at work mean I have to get a temp pass every morning, which involves them phoning one of my colleagues to confirm I work there, which basically means taking the bike is a MASSIVE hassle, and would have me at my desk at 9.30 at the earliest - not the best impression for a first week. So I'm bussing still.

Good crowd, although we were a little subdued this morning, thanks, Kaputnik for the shims B-) and why is it that the one time I don't bring a tourer everyone else seems to ?!? :-))
@Steveo, bad luck, hope the p****** didn't delay you too much :-/

Nice to see you all again. Perhaps I'll see a few folk tomorrow at the cycle show. Not sure how long we'll be there for. We're taking our two buys who will get bored after an hour I expect.

I only eveer commute on my Tourer, the MTB is a PITA over 8 miles.

    Metaphorically or literally?

@MIN, both, the saddle is obvioulsy not meant to be sat on, and its a hard slog on a longer ride out. But then on my Tourers softer gell seat on the Tour of east Lothian got very uncomfortable on the latter stages of the ride.

"the saddle is obvioulsy not meant to be sat on"

A fundamental flaw if ever there was one..

@Smudge nah i'm only a couple of hundred metres from the top of Lothian road where i realised my pressure had gone. Biggest problem is going to be repairing the tube in the dark garage.

    @Dave - "Brooks Flyer", ;-)

I had a "modern" saddle during the tour of East Lothian and regretted it, my roadbike now has a B17 (saddle not aircraft!) bolted to it and I hardly ever notice it while riding :-)

My 'modern' saddle, though extremely comfortable, has recently developed (or has developed, which I've only recently noticed) an uncorrectable lean to one side. I'm intrigued by the number of people advocating Brookses but they're not cheap so not likely to be bought lightly so how can you tell which (from the wide range) is likely to suit (apart from obvious things like riding position/leg angle or preference for springs)?

Tricky... I know at least one person who didn't get on with them. Many long haul people advocate the "Flyer" but it must be said it's very heavy, the B-17 has the same shape of leather (I believe the original shape) but no springs and it's only a bit heavy(!)
I imagine many (most?) people would say even it is a bit bulky for a road bike so at least aesthetically one of their slimmer models might be better for that application.
I feel they have a bit more flex than the modern saddles I've tried and this takes the edge of many thumps and bumps, and they are not as sweaty as plastic/vinyl when(if) it's warm, they also deform a bit to suit the individuals sit bones etc, my flyer is now (after a thousand and a bit miles) comfier than when new, I found it a bit hard for the first week or so then it seemed to soften up. Only notice it now when I hit a big hole and the springs save my back/bum! I sometimes don't bother with padded shorts/longs on it and it's fine :-)

I certainly haven't got the budget/nerve to pay the price for their titanium railed models though! :-o

The other types I haven't tried, but I'm sure some others may be able to make constructive comment, so I'll stop rambling now...
