After nearly 3 years of commuting across the Grange to my daughter's nursery, and expecting daily to get swiped by a car turning from Salisbury place onto causeway side (either/both directions depending on time of day) as I go straight through, it is almost a relief to finally have it happen. the irony is that it was a bike...

I was going straight with no traffic in front (all cars turning right/south) when a lorry coming in opposite direction turned north up causewayside, with car close behind, also turning. Car saw me and stopped. Cyclist on outside of car kept going! Managed to avoid both. Phew. (until next intersection)

    Bl**dy cyclists!

Glad you are OK SRD and that at least one cyclist had their eyes open and their wits about them.

Yeah why don't you grow up and get a car and insurance and a licence and and and .. ;)

I think the nicer weather is bringing out lots of less experiened "fair weather" cyclists, many of whom could probably benefit from a bit of refresher training.

Also, is it me or has there been an explosion of red light jumping in the past few weeks? I saw four rlj-ers at the Morningside Station junction yesterday, each one coming from a different arm of the junction. One of which had to take evasive action to avoid me as I crossed the road (on the green man) while pushing Morningsider junior in a buggy. Some cyclists really do make us a difficult bunch to love.

No, there absolutely has. Hence my frustrated "public service announcement" last week - if you can't trackstand - rolling through a red light very slowly while standing on the pedals does not count!

Yes there lots of cyclists about (and fewer cars?)

So are the schools back again? - saw a few uniforms today - quite confusing.

There were no lollipop persons out today, I presume schools still shut. I think some of the private schools run sports events during the holidays to which uniforms must be worn.

+1 for red light jumpers, mostly older slow occasional cyclists, mostly harmless. Weird for me sitting on an invisi-bike with a million RLJ's under my cap waiting patiently and watching an elderly lady with flower panniers sail slowly through an empty junction.

RLJ is not harmless; if you've ever seen a dozy driver follow one through a red light, you'd realise why...

I suppose it depends on what type of RL you J.
