CityCyclingEdinburgh was launched on the 27th of October 2009 as "an experiment".
IT’S TRUE!
CCE is 15years old!
Well done to ALL posters
It soon became useful and entertaining. There are regular posters, people who add useful info occasionally and plenty more who drop by to watch. That's fine. If you want to add news/comments it's easy to register and become a member.

a proper debate with town and country planners with cyclists over just exactly what a cycle route shoulds be as some of the people who plan thes routes have obviously never used cycle routes before !
A very good general topic!
Do you have any particular examples in mind?
How about a 'who am i' type forum where members can post a bit about themselves - nothing too detailed but very general.
eg. what your cycling habits are, what bicycle(s) you use, day job.
Maybe these things will just come out as the forum grows but I like to see a wee bit about someone's profile - other than it linking to a personal website.
Don't know if it is something you can do with profiles in bbpress?
There is space on profiles to add more info.
Most people aren't even adding their names, so...
Suggest you start a new topic
http://citycyclingedinburgh.info/bbpress/forum.php?id=1
and see what happens.
I wondered about the profile thing. Should profile info come up on clicking someones username? Clicking on it just takes me to their own webpage if they've set one, otherwise it's not clickable.
Maybe the profile thing works for you as Key Master?
If the profiles are viewable (maybe I'm just not clicking the right thing...) then no need for a new topic - otherwise I'll start one ASAP :)
Thanks for all your efforts on setting this up btw - hope it grows!
"Maybe the profile thing works for you as Key Master?"
hmmm didn't realise that basic profiles weren't available to everyone.
At least I've discovered how to change "Key Master!!
Please start new topic.
"Thanks for all your efforts on setting this up btw - hope it grows!"
Thanks, it seems to be worthwhile - No ENews style bampots (yet).
It's interesting what interests people - and GREAT that people are responding on a range of topics - intelligently.
Still strange that there are many more people registered than have ever posted.
Apparently that's quite normal
One member here emailed me to say
"I don't know why people bother to register but never post either - same on a couple of forums I've run. I wonder if it's simply to check and see if there are any exciting 'hidden areas".
So it's grown more than it might appear from the number of posters. Got a nice boost the day the stories appeared in ENews and (next day) on BBC.
Which only happened because people posted their experiences on this site!!
how about a prompt to change password on first login?
"how about a prompt to change password on first login?
"
think that's beyond by competence
might try to add 'name required' warning on change page.
A west coast section?
California or Glasgow?
Worse than that, Airdrie, but I work in Glasgow.
Can it jump to the NEWEST post on the thread (i.e. last page) rather than the OLDEST post (i.e. first page) when you open a thread?
another idea might be a widget on the front page of Edinburgh weather, esp. temperatures, as a form of "icealert". I'm sure such a thing exists
"Can it jump to the NEWEST post on the thread (i.e. last page) rather than the OLDEST post (i.e. first page) when you open a thread?"
Actually don't know. Doesn't seem to be a basic option. There may be a plug-in.
I know what you mean about having to trawl to the bottom, but it's probably less confusing to be in the 'right order' (?)
(Another option is to reduce the number of posts per page but that means that more threads would stretch to 2 or more pages which may or may not be better...)
"another idea might be a widget on the front page of Edinburgh weather, esp. temperatures, as a form of "icealert". I'm sure such a thing exists"
BBPress doesn't seem to support widgets as 'naturally' as WordPress. It also is not too tolerant of even 'normal' HTML (e.g. it prefers [ tags to <).
But yes, a weather widget would be useful - though Edinburgh Airport temperatures aren't usually the same as central Ed.
Might be a bad idea to revive this...
Has the search function stopped working?
@slowcoach
It's never been the best. Easier just to direct Google to search CCE from outside.
My preference would be to have the Themes off at the side, or below the Topics. I never use them, and just have to scroll past them all the time.
Slowcoach, the search function stopped working for me a few days ago. Even searching for 'bike' returned no results! But it seems to be OK again now.
The bit that lets you select a username to refine the search is handy, but it only seems to work on some browsers.
You must log in to post.
