Just a reminder - next Wed

FREE COFFEE + bacon rolls, scrambled eggs, orange juice etc. + info stalls.

Presume 'we' will be there in large numbers with QR codes tucked in our spokes...

What? And unbalance my beautiful wheels? :-) Perhaps I'll turn up on my visiblebike for a change. It'll be easier to park for one thing.

    "And unbalance my beautiful wheels?"

It's alright - you don't have to ride with the card in place...

Och, it always seems to be the day before the highland show. I'll be firmly white van man by then.

  7. Given the Royal Mile is forming my commute route at the moment (gotta love hill training) I'll be there!

I've never quite understood the purpose of the Spokes Bike Breakfast. Is it supposed to encourage new bike commuters or what?

"Is it supposed to encourage new bike commuters or what?"

It tends to be more like a party for Spokes members with refreshments coming out of the pothole budget (I made that up).

Obviously there will be new(ish) bike commuters who can get a free Spokes map if they turn up early enough and get help/info at various stalls.

In addition it's a fairly useful lobbying opportunity - various councillors, officials and people from cycling organisations turn up.

Cycling Scotland has used it as the start of its MSP rides.

So - 'it's a multi-faceted promotional event for cycling' (with free food).

And it usually rains some of the time.

It is for bargain hunters, liggers, and freebie junkies like me. In my defence I tend to distribute the freebies on my travels.

THe hand rail that used to run along the wall and led to many overlapping bikes being locked to it has been replaced by a number of sheffield stands perpendicular to the wall so the stalls will protrude more into the rain.

Kappers - I spotted a nice yellow bike Frontspiere? {not certain] at Haymarket 5pm It was like totally yellow man.

a yellow bike? How crude! It's all about accessories!

Sheesh, always with the freebies while I'm elsewhere (rolls eyes), I shall just have to console myself with pleasant company and the scenery/history/attractions of the Isles instead ;-p

I thought it was Thursday, when I'm out of town (as I was last year), but if it is tomorrow then maybe I will come with daughter as well!

I've got a gym session tomorrow moring but if I can drag myself out of bed early enough I can come afterwards.

Just one question, why is the transport convener booked for a time when surely most people will have left for work?

    I think that's a self answering question!

The chances of me getting there in time to get away in time to get to work by the time I need to be at work this week are slim. Although it's thin and papery I picked up a Bike Station-flavoured map at the Better Ways To Work thing to supplement my older but proper map-thick paper (and waterproofedly-laminated) Spokes map. Wouldn't mind a chain-clean but I expect there'd be a queue for that, too.

Surely the collective noun for a group of recumbents is a "recline"?

Surely the collective noun for a group of recumbents...

...was actually discussed at length on another forum! Suggestions included:

    • a coven of recumbents
    • a breeze
    • an iconoclasm
    • a nonconformance
    • a bevy
    • a comfort
    • a reclination
    • a whirl (as in Washington Happily Independent Recumbent Lovers)
    • a kindness
    • a break
    • a recumble
    • a fog
    • a teem
    • a brigade...

but by concensus it was decided that a breeze was the best one.

Perhaps I ought to bring the monstrousbike after all. I have to get my secret QR code made up, too.
