Cyclist injured after colliding with lorry

    Published Date: 30 May 2011
A CYCLIST was seriously injured after colliding with a tipper lorry in Midlothian this morning.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash which happened on the A6094 half-way between Howgate and Leadburn at around 8.40am.

Following the collision, the lorry continued towards Leadburn, while the cyclist - a man in his 40s - was taken to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, where he is in a serious condition.

The road between Howgate and Leadburn was closed for a short time while investigations were carried out at the scene, and has now reopened.

Police are appealing for the lorry driver to contact them as a matter of urgency. Anyone who has any information that can assist in identifying the driver should call Lothian and Borders Police on 0131 311 3131, or Crimestoppers in confidence and complete anonymity on 0800 555 111.

The tipper lorry is described as having a grey or silver trailer, and a black or blue tarpaulin cover.

A police spokesman said: "It is very possible that the driver has carried on without realising what has happened, and it's important that they contact police as a matter of urgency.

"Similarly, anyone who witnessed the collision, or who was on the A6094 this morning and noticed either the cyclist or the lorry heading towards Leadburn, should also get in touch."

"A CYCLIST was seriously injured after colliding with a tipper lorry in Midlothian this morning."

Well, that'll serve them right for colliding with a lorry, won't it? Course, it would be a different matter if the driver had struck the cyclist, but then it would say that in the article </coworker mode>

That guy is a co-worker of mine and having heard of his injuries and that his kids are not allowed in to see him yet... I hope he recovers well and fast.
The list of injuries scares the hell out of me, makes me glad I only cycle in town where traffic doesn't often get above 30 mph and there are option of cycle paths etc.

When you get a chance, please tell him that we're all thinking of him.

"Cyclist-crushed-by-a-lorry-makes-miraculous-recovery" Saturday's Herald had follow-up to this from last May.
