Obviously we need some kind of licensing scheme for drivers that would make them responsible for their actions. Oh and make them buy road tax and insurance....

    Hope this chap recovers quickly.

How many people need to be hurt or worse, before the courts start treating hit & run seriously? This is getting out of hand.

The one earlier in the week about the chap hit by a tipper truck near Leadburn (without knowing any details of the case, and without specific reference to it), it is sadly feasible that a large vehicle with an inattentive driver could hit a cyclist and never know it had happened.

But a wee car with 2 passengers? They must have known that they had did it and therefore must just have had blatant disregard for this chap's welfare. What sort of person's reaction to knocking anyone over (be it on a bike, or a pedestrian) is just to carry on? From the way the article is written it sounds like they may initially have stopped.

Fortunately it sounds like he'll live to pedal another day.
