Watch out for road rage if you get doored, it could have tragic consequences.
"A cyclist from Brighton who punched a man in the face after he opened a car door in his path has been jailed for 18 months."
CityCyclingEdinburgh was launched on the 27th of October 2009 as "an experiment".
IT’S TRUE!
CCE is 15years old!
Well done to ALL posters
It soon became useful and entertaining. There are regular posters, people who add useful info occasionally and plenty more who drop by to watch. That's fine. If you want to add news/comments it's easy to register and become a member.
RULES No personal insults. No swearing.

As I grow more sensitive to the reporting of 'in group' and 'out group' I begin to wonder how this would have been reported if it had been two motorists involved.
The opening sentence would probably not have been "A driver from Brighton who punched a man in the face after he...", but instead would have been "A man from Brighton who punched another man in the face after he..." or perhaps "A man with psychotic symptoms from Brighton..."
However, it's not unreasonable to imagine that the article might have referred to some other 'out group' had that been relevant...
"An illegal immigrant from Brighton..."
"A member of the traveller community from Brighton..."
The article consistently refers to the offender as a 'cyclist' rather than a 'man', although those of us who are cyclists might opine that his behaviour nothing whatsoever to do with the mode of transport he'd chosen for the day.
Yes, it's true. 'Cyclist' is now a de facto pejorative term. Thanks, Clarkson!
In fairness to the reporter, the fact that this person was a cyclist is relevant. The snip doesn't mention if the cyclist is male or female, so at least it's gender neutral.
I propose "to be a bit of a Clarkson" is used henceforth to refer to a boorish character to redress the balance.
