"I cycled home from work in jeans last night"
When I was a teenager, I used to always cycle in jeans, even on two week tours. In retrospect, there is more appropriate clothing.
CityCyclingEdinburgh was launched on the 27th of October 2009 as "an experiment".
IT’S TRUE!
CCE is 15years old!
Well done to ALL posters
It soon became useful and entertaining. There are regular posters, people who add useful info occasionally and plenty more who drop by to watch. That's fine. If you want to add news/comments it's easy to register and become a member.
RULES No personal insults. No swearing.

Weirdly, I have found the best way to avoid chafing on the bent is not to wear tight clothing, these days I just go commando under shorts with a wool base layer, seems good for a couple of days in a row...
As for other cyclists, being somewhere with decent infrastructure is weird, because there is none of the 'congratulations-on-not-getting-squashed' fraternity I feel in the UK. Instead its just people, like walking but a bit faster.
Cyclingmollie: there are some caveats! Unfortunately a smile is normally all I can manage on the way up steep hills!
I did have a pleasant chat with a fella on my way up Drumbrae North a few months ago when we got caught at the set of lights outside the BOS branch. I let him go on first but ended up passing him before the first bus stop. I did manage a thank you in my most cheery 'pah!-this-hill-is-such-a-breeze' voice before grimacing and panting the rest of the way up.
Ruggtomcat: I've never cycled anywhere other than the UK but your fraternity comment is spot on! Should I know about a secret hand(lebar)shake?
I think thats called Shimmy.
