My commute was rudely interrupted and turned into a walk this morning at the end of Semple Street by a big red "ROAD CLOSED" sign on Morrison Street westbound. Closed between there (Scottish Widows) and junction with Gardner's Crescent. Eastbound traffic in a contraflow.

Divert via Gardner's or Grove Street if you're coming from Tollcross / Meadows direction, otherwise only option is to hop off and walk or go back round onto Lothian Road into the one way system, perhaps never to come out.

I didn't notice any signs at Tollcross, on Ponton Street or entrance to Semple Street warning of closure and it was open OK yesterday evening.

    Hmppppppppppph!

There were signs informing people heading east from Dewar Place last week that the westbound bit between Semple St and Gardner's would be shut. I didn't know why this was being impressed upon eastbound traffic until yesterday evening, when eastbound traffic was unable to progress eastbound along that section because of everyone who had been heading along Semple St hoping to turn left/west was forced to turn right instead, blocking the last one-way bit of Morrison St.

Wasn't that the same Council who opted not to close that same road for a day to support European Mobility Week?

I was hot-tyreing it down to Haymarket on Saturday. Took a hard left at West Tollcross because Thornybauk was shut, raced through Ponton St and Semple St, then was suddenly confronted by the big sign at the top of Morrison St telling me to turn right. I could see the pavement was open for business though, so I turned myself into a pedestrian to get to down to Gardner's Crescent. Another five minutes in hand and I might've taken Lothian Road to Shandwick Place and West Maitland, and had time for the nine sets of traffic lights.

Perhaps George St can be closed for us on October 27th, if we ask really nicely.
