CityCyclingEdinburgh was launched on the 27th of October 2009 as "an experiment".
IT’S TRUE!
CCE is 15years old!
Well done to ALL posters
It soon became useful and entertaining. There are regular posters, people who add useful info occasionally and plenty more who drop by to watch. That's fine. If you want to add news/comments it's easy to register and become a member.
RULES No personal insults. No swearing.

... those days when energy levels are high and you can just whizz around.
... It's #cycling, in #Edinburgh ...
Being able to cycle most of the way to work from Granton to near Haymarket on the path away from traffic!
Being able to cycle from Musselburgh to Holyrood entirely off-road.
The sudden calm of turning off the rush hour A7 onto the Penicuik - Dalkeith Railway path
... buses blocking from being able to take a left turn filter, but there being loads of space for a bike, and knowing the light sequence so you can fit down the space and be off into the sunset knowing there are still at least a couple of minutes before the bus's lights change and it clears the turn.
...finding that a particular route-variant seems noticeably easier after returning to it after a couple of weeks' avoidance...
For some reason I love riding up South Bridge northbound. It is sort of like a reverse electric brae where it is obviously uphill but it feels like you are going downhill and can just zoom up it. Well, so long as it is clear enough..
I also love getting up early and riding around on the cyclepaths while they are quiet although it turns out the Innocent is bestrewn with rabbits at such times.
Waterloo Place and Marionville Road (eastbound on both) have the same sort of uphill-but-fast feeling, presumably due to wind-sheltering or tailwind-funnelling.
The Electric Brae is a downhill that feels like a downhill but looks like an uphill, and South Bridge northbound is an uphill that looks like an uphill and feels like a downhill. The more I think about it, the more South Bridge genuinely feels like a bi-directional downhill.
I love the sweeping downhill roundabouts of Lochside Crescent and Wester Hailes Road, and the biliard ball smooth curve around the roundabout at London Street.
I love hightailing it into town along the A71 bus lane, all the way from the bypass to Gorgie and Dalry.
I love the countrified feeling of cycling from Leith to Scotland Street along NCN75, and the views from Steadfastgate.
Regent Road/Regent Terrace is just lovely in either direction - a nice gentle uphill (which I take slooowly!) or a great big sweeping, usually quiet zoom down. Beautiful views over the cemetery/Old Town side, stunning on the rare mornings that there's sunshine, the road surface isn't terrible, and I once saw a fox there too!
"and the views from Stedfastgate"
Some people may regard this as sacrilegious - I think there is a need for a bit of tree pruning/removal.
And the removal of the Powderhall Refuse Plant!!
At least the St. James Centre and New St. Andrew's House is being remodelled.
(I presume there is an apostrophe in there, the SG doesn't seem sure about the old one.)
Second for Regent Road, especially downhill!
....getting at least half way up Ashley terrace on the SS before any of the cars you left standing at the Slateford filter.
.... the fact the 'love' list is twice as long as the 'hate' list.
...the wee Hutchison Crossway cut through (started using this fairly recently. Think I now prefer this way to Roberston Av/Gorgie Rd even though it must be about 100m further!)
... that i can fix pretty much every thing on my bikes
... being able to get to work in less than 17 minutes
"... being able to get to work in less than 17 minutes"
But if you had a car, you could get there in 25 minutes in comfort and safety...
... cake (stomach speaking)
...everyone , everybody underneath the sun I think you're all the most amazing fun!
... the bike racks at the Parliament that converge to form bike shapes.
"But if you had a car, you could get there in 25 minutes in comfort and safety... "
Hmm, if only - the extra drive from the foot of Leith Walk to Ocean terminal adds 5 minutes at least to my day...
...arriving at work energised from my cycle, feeling ready to face the day. And riding away the tensions of my workday on my cycle home.
(Hello, by the way - this is my first post on the forum!)
"the bike racks at the Parliament that converge to form bike shapes."
Really! I never knew that, thought they were a bit needlessly abstract. Is it a perspective thing like the big channel 4 logo on Horseferry Road, London.
... new people joining the forum (hello MeepMeep!)
@stepdoh I don't know about the Channel 4 logo in London but if it only looks correct from one direction, when all the different elements have lined up then yes. I nearly took a photo of them this morning on my way past to put on here. Wish I had now.
...and hello MeepMeep.
when sometimes I see a heron in the burn through the Bingham stretch of the Innocent...
Cyclingmollie - I really like those bike racks too! They also look like they'd be nice and versatilely easy to use (I never need to lock my bike there as I live quite nearby), the 'standard' kind can be a bit tricky for my bike with its dropped crossbar.
Also hello to MeepMeep, of course! :)
