A rather unfortunate tragi-comic slo-mo rider down this morning in the ASL box at Ponton Street. I was in the middle of the box waiting to turn right, he was in the left of the box to turn left.

Dozy backpackers with enormous rucksacks strapped to front and back completely missed the pedestrian crossing, started crossing in the ASL and walked straight into the poor chap by my side.

A rather Laurel and Hardy situation as as backpacker 2 tried to pull backpacker 1 off of the cyclist, who did well to keep his calm and politely tell them to look before they cross.

I wonder if there was a bus nearby or local CCTV that might have captured this. "Pedestrian knocks down cyclist" would rather stand out in the normal run of stories.

  3. And then the comments on the Evening News site would flow...

"It's about time someone gave cyclists a taste of their own medicine."

"I'm almost knocked down every morning by cyclists on the pavement outside my house."

"They should pay road tax and be registered - only then would I have some sympathy with them."

    etc etc etc
