"Named after Portobello Provost Christian who campaigned for it as a shortcut" to Portobello Station (RIP) now a useful route - not least for walking/cycling to Porty High.

Great, so as a follower of Maltodextrin, the FSM, a frisbiterian and ordained minister in the Church of the Latter Day Dude I am excluded from a Christian path.

would not be a great cut through from Airdrie tho and no SQA down that way unless you were sent to investigate an inordinate number of assessment arrangements at the High School (actually not excessive just Edinburgh's biggest overall no.of pupils on roll but nothing compared to the massive ones in Fife).

Tricky whose younger uncle Finley Quaye from Edinburgh, once saw a Christian in Christiansands, a locality in Bristol

I sometimes visit Edinburgh for the zoo and castle. I'll probably be over for the museum and check out if they screwed it up as much as the former transport museum in Glasgow.

We now have a transport themed art installation.

When we go to the castle I park at Holyrood duck pond and cycle up the hill.

I'm very much afraid that my mum is going to a garden party with Brenda at Holyrood. I tried to talk her out of it but she's going with my auntie.

the tea and scones are good. Our secretary went and took her daughter [who is a wedding dress designer, young, attractive and blonde]. Phil the Greek asked our secretary - 1. Have you got any more of these at home? [referring to the daughter] and 2. Much call for wedding dresses these days?

Instead of parking at duck pond, park at Porty Baths and cycle up - you could use the Christian cut through and there is another cut through - if I am right Fishwives Row or somesuch - quite a nice wee cut through too.

That's good news - and a nice video. I didn't know that about Terry Christian. It was closed last month when we tried to get to PEDAL Porty market that way.

  15. How very odd that that has the 'fastest route' being using the road, with a traffic-lit junction and hideously cobbled street, being half a mile long, taking 2m47s. Whereas the Christian Path is flat, smooth, 0.2 miles and allegedly takes 3m57s...

Bear in mind my video above, with intro and so on, is 1m24s and I wasn't riding quickly (since I was holding the phone up...

I'm glad part of the budget was spent on non-regular bike unfriendly barriers at the start...

Had to get that moan in first!

  17. Actually the gate is pretty widely spaced, easy to use. Strange though that there's not one at the Brighton Place end where there's much more chance of flying out from the path on the road!

Video was really a test, as well, of what can be done in-phone - used the 'splice' app (helps to have my entire music library on the phone as well... ;) )

One hand for the phone, one for a skinny latte and none for the bars - see 0:39.

I've revived this thread just in case anyone else has, like me, been cycling between Portobello and Duddingston for years but has somehow not twigged that the Christian Path is exactly the route needed to almost totally eliminate any cycling along Portobello High Street and cut out the awful ride along the cobbles of Brighton Place, that road which the number 42 bus takes as it trundles towards Duddingston then goes under the railway bridge.

I took the Christian Path last night and hallelujah. Great path, great route. I'm a convert.
