Looks quite fun, but strikes me as being a bit impractical (compared to a trailer). Don't suppose they do a UK version?

("Please note: Chariot Carriers products can only be shipped to U.S. and Canada." - even if you wanted one)

There's a cool tandem plus side car in the Drumlanrig cycle museum.

I'm sure some potential cycling parents might appreciate their loved ones being alongside rather than behind, and (in a UK version), more "defencible" by being safely on their left, leaving captain's right hand free to thump the side of taxis, buses and white vans passing too close.

As well as the problem of the extra width, it might be more difficult to negotiate potholes with something alongside, rather than behind (where the trailer follows where the bike goes, rather than moves alongside where the bike goes)

Hmmm, well motorcycle sidecars originally came about to save lady passengers either being sprayed with road filth when sitting in a trailer or being terrified sat on a seat out front, so I can see the comfort/passenger safety arguments... however having ridden a motorcycle and sidecar (for a while, not just a quick round the block), I have to say it's the most unstable and potentially dangerous road vehicle I've ever driven/ridden!
Everyone who rides bikes should have a shot just for the experience, and it's a good laugh for a while, but piloting them safely is a dark art mastered by only a few :-o (and that doesn't include me! :-)))

Where do I start, well when you accelerate (assuming a UK chair) the whole outfit tries to turn left, when you decelerate it turns right, any sort of camber requires a constant pressure on the handlebars to travel in a straight line. Turn a tight left hand corner and the chair wheel often wants to pick up, fortunately reasonably controllably, turn hard right and it will be fine up until it either skids/drifts or flips over, pray it skids first.... also when you hit bumps (like sleeping policemen) it rocks side to side in an alarming fashion as the front, then chair, then rear wheels roll over the obstacle, apart from that, they're more or less ok... ;-)

All that said, I'd have another go in a blink B-)

The 4 yr old was VERY taken with the motorbike/sidecar used in Springwatch this year. She would love the idea of this sidecar attached to the tandem, so her small brother would be beside her.
