Just to say It's absolutely chucking it down at EH28 (Ingliston), just incase it hasn't made it into the body of the kirk yet.

  2. It hammered down here about ten minutes ago - don't know which way the weather is moving, could be we've still got the Ingliston stuff to come! (looking at the clouds over the Castle now I think it is travelling from west to east - damn).

I dodged the main storm and changed my plans and went TTing after a ride home to swap bikes and clothing and shape of hat.

Rode it in just SS jersey and bibs but with waterproof booties on in a sop to the wet on the road. I didn't get much more than mildly damp, which I would have done from sweating anyway.

Made it home safe and dry :-)
Our pussycat however was caught out in the next downpour after I got back... he was NOT impressed and had to tell me all about it!

My ride home in the end was quite dry, think I had tucked in behind the storm as it was heading eastwards.

was about to leave home yesterday morning when it started pouring, not happy, as it had been fine when we should have left....sigh. but got the recycling ready and put it out and the worse was over.

then was about to leave work a bit before 5, and by the time I got downstairs from my office it was pouring again! s'okay though. the trees on NMW kept things surprisingly dry, and by the time I reached Polwarth it had stopped again.

The other pointy hat-owners of ERC were having a good laugh at my pointy hat yesterday evening because it has an "aquavent" - basically you can pull a rubber stopper out the top of it, pour a bottle of water in, and theres a small network of channels that sprinkles a refreshing, cooling shower of water (or juice!) over your noggin. I kept it stopped up to keep the rain out.

The Danish Meterological Institute also serves the interests of our bicycle culture. They've done a spot of research regarding how likely it is for you to get wet on your daily commute. Important research for any true bicycle nation.

It's still not rained a drop here - just lots of thunder. It must just be sitting out there.

  13. Sitting on the 7th floor listening to the thunder and disappointed at no forked lightning anywhere. :(

    (I like a good thunderstorm)

Lightning looking good from South Gyle. Have a great vista all across Edinburgh (facing east) from the 3rd floor.

  15. Damn you!

Hoping it keeps going till after 5 (remaining as precipitation free) and I'll get the camera out...

No lighting visible here :-( just lots of nice big thunderclaps and a view of a carpark that's mostly under about 2" of water.

Wonder if it will hit T in the Park.....

Judging by how clsoe the lightning and thunder is, I work in the weather machine.

Fork just appeared to hit top of Corstorphine Hill, although in reality it was probably behind it.

Seems to be equal ratio of forks to flashes. Getting thick cloud low down, top of Corstorphine hill just dissapeared. Rain really turning on. Wheely bins not floating. Yet.

No hit here yet. I was dragging out my lunch but had to go back in before it started. Hope it's still raining by the time I leave.

On the downside, my camping weekend has been cancelled as my wife's pals' kids' skins are apparently not waterproof.

  26. Short torrential downpour here (Morrison Street) with a couple of nearby forks, but quietened down again. Can feel it in the air though, and sounds like there's nore to come if westerly reports on here are anything to go by.

You do realise I took the waterproof jacket out of the bag this morning in order to fit in my jeans and trainers for dress down Friday don't you?

Not too far from Kaputnik's work here, and the weather is really quite exciting. There'll soon be someone on a black Lightning hoping not to get struck by white lightning.

So... how safe is riding in a thunderstorm.

Guess being on the outide of the frame means you don't get the faraday cage effect that a car has.

@anth I could lend you my anorak, which I won't be wearing, as I'm not water-soluble. I've a spare jumper in my desk drawer as well if ou think you might get cold.
