We've failed to get a parcel delivered by DPD several times now (even when we've been home). In frustration, Mr SRD has decided it would be a nice cycle with the kids along the canal. Will need trailer to collect parcel.

Cycle streets journey #892789 makes it look pretty easy, but (after the post about a path being blocked in the Newbridge area) just thought I would check that there are no unforeseen obstacles in getting off the path/getting the trailer along the canal-path etc.

I've done it from my office at ingliston, took me a about 10-15 mins to get there, but used path through ratho station then over the a9 bridge.

Basically the red route. Will the trailer be okay on the aqueduct?

Apart from usual canal navigation difficulties (bridges and the aqueduct), the only other bit to watch is the Cliftonhall Road as the vans operating out of Newbridge barrel up and down there at a fair lick.

Thanks all. have managed the aqueduct etc in the past (in fact on our first trailer outing last year), so that should be okay.

Expedition arrived safely home bearing parcel. Rather damp but no casualties.

Only problem was on aqueduct, where, near the end, cyclist headed over rather than waiting for them to finish crossing, and then ended up lifting his bike over the trailer. Husband was mostly annoyed that the guy wouldn't engage at all - had headphones on and didn't make eye contact or speak. Other cyclists coming behind apparently muttered something like 'that's too wide'. Is it really considered bad form to take a trailer out the canal?

Some people obviously do. But that doesn't make it them right. There's plenty of room for everyone on the canal and lots of places where you can pass - pushchairs are wheelchairs are no problem, a trailer is no wider.

If they're in a hurry I've never found the canal the route you should take.

Anyway, I'm sure Mr SRD plus trailer was more than capable of breaking the British Waterways 6mph speed limit (or whatever it is). Not that he would have dared to do such a reprehensible thing, of course!

If this had been me, I'd have accidentally slipped and pushed the other guy into the drink.... but then I'm always tripping over those tricky cobbles!
