    Hello all,

There has been quite a bit of discussion on here of the safety/danger of large vehicles.

IF I was able to organise it, would there be interest in forumers having a look around an LGV/LGV's to see what the driver can/can't see and have a chat about what's easy/difficult about manouvreing them in traffic? (I think seeing things from the point of view of another road user is always useful!)

I can't promise it's possible, and we don't at the moment have any artics (or *very* large wagons) here, and if I can it wont be for a couple of months at least. Just testing the water though...

  2. Yes, absolutely. From a personal and a citycycling point of view.

Count me in too. I don't go up the nearside of a bus or articulated vehicle unless it's stationary and I can see a clear route beyond it and I can't go around the offside and I have good cause not to wait in line.

And I can see that it's definitely not going to be moving again in the very near future.

Excellent video, should be handed out as a freebie with all adult bikes! Never ever go down the inside of a lorry/bus, this IS how cyclists get killed.

Yip. I hate how obscured my field of view is even in a mere car.

I don't go up the inside of anything articulated period. ;-)

In a past life I rode around in an HGV quite a bit, although never in the driving seat. It would be interesting to try (the same goes for buses, actually).

If something was organised and could be open to quite a few people, I'd like to raise it with the council and see if they would publicise it for staff to attend.

Am on the job ! Looking like a goer but might involve dreaded health and safety issues, managers looking into ! suspect no breath holding ! but well see !

  13. Funny that H&S might get thrown as an excuse not to do something which improves health and, well, safety...

I used to be H&S officer at my old work - the misapplication of the rules by other H&S officers used to really wind me up.

H+ S.....oh well at least it keeps us covered ! awaits bullets ! I agree its the wrong attitude. Well if the visit is on a sucure site, ie off the public road, and the correct risk assesments are in place, I can with a wee bit of notice, provide, as long as its at the begining of a week, a full size, 44 ton artic and trailer . Generally speaking ! My manager had apparently done something similar in a previous post. He thinks its a great idea, but business needs must come first. Fair enough ! I will hopefully also bring my air cadets along and get them to talk to more experienced cyclists, they atr all dead keen on bikes, but with limited knowledge or experience ! So, over to you !

SS,can you pm me with an email address? We may be able to sort something out location-wise, if you know the location of the (old) Air Cadet HQ in Edinburgh that's where I'm thinking of.

Not forgotten, but just back tonight from holiday, unfortunately in time for a run of major "life events" leading to a critical shortage of spare time over coming weeks/months.

Some good, some bad, normal service resumed soon(ish!) with a bit of luck.

Will try and liaise with Mr SS and sort something out soon anyway :)

I was thinking about this thread today as I saw the news that another female cyclist has been killed by a lorry in London.

:-/ I would love to say I'm on the case with this, but unfortunately I'm not just now :-(
Various things, including the predicted arrival of a mini-Smudge (B-)) have robbed me of any free time just now.
Keep prodding me though and in the event I get any time I'll try to get things moving.

    Sorry it's a bit of a crap answer :-(

Strangely the 24th is about the only day in the next month or two when I *may* be available! I shall keep an eye out for further info...
