    One based in Glasgow - Salary Circa £24,000 per annum
    One based in Edinburgh – this post will have a National remit and will attract a Salary Circa £28,000 per annum

    Bike Club is an innovative new project to create new cycling clubs and activities for children and young people, funded by the ASDA Foundation.

    Bike Club is delivered by a partnership of CTC (the national cyclists’ organisation), Youth Scotland and ContinYou.

    We are looking for Bike Club Development Workers to be responsible for delivering the project, working closely with existing networks of staff and volunteers in formal and nonformal learning settings.

    You will need to demonstrate a good knowledge of community based cycling or physical activity projects and programmes; work experience across a range of community and youth work settings; and a track record of developing training and learning programmes.

    The closing date for applications is 12 noon on Monday 1st March 2010. Interviews will be held in Edinburgh on 15th and 16th March 2010.

    And paying nearly twice the salary of a bike mechanic. (I must admit to being shocked at seeing what mechanic/sales jobs in bike shops were being advertised at recently.)

    Indeed.

    It's quite a good example of the blue/white (collar), brain/brawn split.

    Another reality is that bike shops have never been highly profitable.

    I believe bike mechanics get paid noticably more in London.

    Some people work in bike shops to get access to (sometimes generous) staff discounts/bike suppliers' deals to feed their habits
