  2. Why is it on a Friday? Booo! I presume it's aimed at kids on the last stretch of their summer holidays?

Summer holidays will be long gone by then. Most schools seem to close at lunch on a Friday though. Wasn't like that in my day etc etc.. :-P

No, schools will be back - but they have Friday afternoons off.

I would have gone to that to see the BMX Bandits from Tynecastle, they will all be there if their is a suggestion of freebies [same as me at the Spokes Bike Breakfast - I always like to arrive in the City Chambers shouting FREEBIES]]

Alas I am taking day off to cycle to Jupiter (Artland) or walk to the Martyr's Grave.

Only Lothian schools do the start 3 minutes early at 8.32 a.m. and have 40 minutes for lunch so we can have the whole of Friday afternoon off [teachers do training in this time].

In the good old days the schools of SW Edinburgh took Wednesday afternoons off instead and indeed in the real old days Craigroyston took Wednesdays and Fridays. So the Friday thing is actually a rationalisation, believe it or not.

Went to Jupiter Artland on Monday to take wife for lunch and it was shut! I hadn't even considered checking - I haven't checked since, maybe its usually shut on Mondays and Friday will be fine, but worth checking.

Oh no EB I feel quite bad about that, only open on Mondays listed below, and never Tues or Weds. It is definitely worth persevering, but next Thurs, Fri you will be back at the chalkface. I was at a funeral of a head teacher yesterday [a brilliant, genuine guy who retired a few years back] and met up with various cronies. I asked one if she was looking forward to Monday she said - It will be like going in to HELL.

Jupiter Artland will re open on Friday 13th May 2011.

We are open Thursdays to Sundays 10am-5pm until Sunday 18th September 2011.

We are also open Bank Holiday Monday 30th May and Monday 29th August.

I attended the bike festival on Friday after the biblical deluge around 1.30 - 2.00pm. I hope to post some photos later.
