So it's Apple/Apple v Nokia/Microsoft v Motorola/Google (Android)
Wonder how other Android using hardware manufacturers will react?

I suspect this has more to do with securing patents to protect the android eco-system from an ever Microsofting Apple. Apple licence a number of patents from Motorola so now they licence them from Google. If Apple were to go after HTC as they did against Samsung's tablet Google now has a very powerful trump card.
Back off or we'll get the iPhone pulled!
