23.4% - If Edinburgh is like Glasgow I'd encourage folk to look at their local electoral roll. In one close here we had 18 names on the register, but only 2 actually resident, and discovered actors long moved away still with a vote available from their old Glasgow address. I'd reckon that a full audit and expunging of 'dead' names would deliver a 40-50% turn out in place of the meagre figure claimed.

The Tory vote is out in force, it seems. WTF?

Apparently at my local polling station, by 6pm only 120 people had voted all day. Folk without children still on holiday, perhaps?

"The Tory vote is out in force, it seems"

Some people will stick with party of their choice more than others (low turnout). It would be interesting to see turnout figures from individual polling sations.

thespurtle: Anti-tram Independent voters mostly transferred votes to Conservatives not anti-tram SNP in latest round. Odd.
    "

Not entirely - not many people 'believe' that SNP councillors want to stop tram enough to not be part of ruling coalition!

That's just number of transferred preference votes - but it is complicated.

ALSO a curious form of PR where (in a by-election) no account is taken of party of other seats in ward - it's not really a ward by-election, just one of the seats.

IainMcGill: Well, game over - led at every stage of transfers until the last - but @theSNP hold #edcc with 1368 to my 1264 - was a great campaign though

    "
So more Lab votes to SNP than Tory.

What happened at the hustings (winner is last person mentioned).

So the worst candidate won. Just goes to show that voters are still voting according to tribal party loyalties or to keep X party out (in this case the Tories?) rather than on a candidate's merits.

Also demonstrates that events like hustings do not matter to most voters. Still, 'most' is a bit academic given the turnout. Most voters didn't vote at all...
