You sometimes see police appealing for witnesses on twitter, they tell you to ring 101 and say you're ringing about an incident on a specific date and quote a number to them - if no such appeal has gone out, I'd call 101 anyway and explain the situation to them and they might know what to do.

Shame Garfield right next door. You would think they would take a dim view of crime outside the polis station?
Bit like the classic Episode of Fireman Sam where they had to put out a fire at Pontypandy Fires Station.
Except Firemna Sam and Elvis Cridlington actually did the business.

Shockingly close pass by a Lothian number 8 just before 7pm this evening. Going up Gilmerton Rd (ironically to survey the segregated cycle lanes for the Spokes competition!) and on one of the few unsegregated sections opposite Ellen’s Glen Rd. Started off close (as in touching distance) and only proceeded to get even closer to the point I had to stop to avoid being squished. Road is pretty wide and I wasn’t aware of much traffic going the other way so can only assume it was a deliberate punishment pass (though no idea why?). Unfortunately no footage as I haven’t figured out how to mount my Garmin and my Cycliq at the same time but I think the Reg was SJ18NFK. Worth reporting?

Lothian Buses all have on board cameras. Worth reporting to them and asking them to review the footage. As you know the time/location and service number they can find it.

Thanks- tweet sent. Let’s see what they say.

BMW driver entered the roundabout I was already in the middle of the other day. I'm not sure if their wave was them apologising for almost hitting me or thanking me for slowing down in order to avoid a collision. My own gesture was not ambiguous.

@Boff: If you've still not had any joy from 101, you might want to contact the OP of this reddit thread.

@ejstubbs: thanks, I am in contact with him and have shared my Police reference number and offered to act as a witness if needed.

Driver of Ratho Coaches coach YS16 LNA staring at his phone while driving along St John’s Road. Holding the phone in both hands, steering with his elbows.

Close passed, then later tailgated along Frogston Road, by a Lothians Bus driver this morning.

Nearly taken out by an oncoming driver in Port Seaton - they were overtaking a car that (I assume) was sticking to the speed limit...

I went out to the Pentlands yesterday evening, up Lanark Road then through Juniper Green, through Blinkbonny to Harlaw.
At the entrance to the roadworks in Juniper Green, took primary behind the car in front and cycled on in, easily keeping pace with the traffic and approx a 3.5m gap. Chill.
At this point a pair of clowns in a blue minivan decided to launch an overtake which immediately went wrong given the gap he was aiming for was considerably smaller than their vehicle. Even primary doesn't dissuade the determined imbecile. I yelled as much at the driver, took a more forceful primary and cycled on to the Blinkbonny turnoff, still in the same bunch of traffic.
He followed. I waved them by at the bottom of the hill after the bridge over the Water of Leith. Funnily enough he wasn't interested in passing now. I carried on. Pulled over 3/4 of the way up the hill to wave him on again. Still not interested in passing.
A full and frank exchange of views took place. Repeated my view that overtaking should only be attempted when the target gap is bigger than one's vehicle.
Obviously I then nearly completed a bingo card: ("middle of the road" -> that's primary position, go read cyclecraft; "we can't get past" -> did you need to, we were in the same group of traffic all the way here; "we're cyclists too" -> O RLY; "where's your helmet" -> *facepalm*). Just needed something about road tax - maybe next time!
I pointed out that their earlier haste had disappeared since they appeared to have plenty of time to chew the fat with me. Thought the pair of them were going to pop major blood vessels at that! We parted ways, they felt the need to drive slowly for several seconds in front of me. This was redundant, I'd already got they point that they were hard of thinking.
Cycled on past the Horse Fields up Kirkgate and round to Harlaw carpark. Stopped to admire the view, no rush, lovely evening.
Despite the considerable elapsed time the clown-car and its occupants were still in the process of parking quite illicitly at the car-park end of the access road by the entrance to the field, possibly having moved some cones to do it. Making quite a pigs-ear of it too as far as I could tell[1]. Gave them a cheery wave. Further fulminations ensued. I rode off round the reservoirs to meet my friends, perfectly delighted.
[1] Quite possibly the chosen gap wasn't *quite* big enough for their vehicle....

Leaving the pool this morning after swimming I saw that a naughty car had lightly embedded itself in the white building here:

2 police cars in attendance. Thankfully no injuries (except presumably to driver insurance premiums).

White building now houses.
Used to be offices for this -

Interesting. Given the slightly odd architecture I'd idly assumed it was the former meeting-hall of an esoteric order.

Yesterday travelling with both kids in front of me eastbound on Warrender Park Road, the DPD driver behind us (despite my efforts to ride primary to the right) pushed past us and overtook my eldest, who was negotiating a double parked car, with about 30cm to spare. I teach her to shoulder check which she did but the driver just pushed through. I didn't shout as I didn't want to make her wobble, but I can't get the image out of my head. Didn't get video or the reg, was just concerned with the younger one at the time. Terrifying - that's not an exaggeration, and the image will stay with me for a long time. Driver turned right about 10m later of course.
You think you're just squeezing past slowly, you think your double parking is just for a minute and it's not harming anyone. Wrong. Wrong. Wrong. If the door had opened - well... doesn't bear thinking about. I am questioning my own sanity riding around with the kids.

That sounds heartstoppingly dreadful :(
DPD with their Benthamesque monitoring of the performance and whereabouts of their
slaves"delivery partners" should be able to identify the miscreant.Maybe an approach via the twitters might be fruitful
"DPD <rule 2> tried to run over my kids" is not a good look for them.

Had something similar with illegally parked vehicles outside a local Indian restaurant. The road is narrowed at that point with an island too - I doubt the restaurant staff don't understand my subsequent one-man-campaign to see their patrons and delivery drivers fined or shamed.
I suspect it will take a while before you recover your equilibrium...

thanks @MediumDave and @Roibeard for the understanding. Will probably be even more protective and actively prevent passes more assertively in future but it's a bit rubbish having to do that
Posted 3 years ago # -
@algo - that is why I rarely cycle with my kids. I simply find it too stressful. I also doubt they enjoy me barking, often contradictory, instructions at them...
"Not too far out now. No! Not too close to the parked cars, in case someone opens a door..."
They both enjoy cycling (or at least its strong association with cake) but I can't handle the terror that they could be flattened at any moment.

That's shocking. Close passing adults is bad enough but it takes a special level of sociopath to deliberately endanger a child on a bike.
Posted 3 years ago # -
Nowhere near that level but a professional driver reversing/swinging the front out while staring at phone

Could equally have gone in the sentient beings thread.
Same location as a similar incident on Hogmanay:

Don’t think there’s a thread for rubbish fixing bikes to cars.
