A 19-year-old man has been jailed for four years and eight months after admitting killing three of his friends by dangerous driving near Dumfries in March 2022.
Jake Loy - who was 17 at the time and did not have a full licence - was driving on the A711 when he crashed into another vehicle.

Heading west bound on Princes Street this evening and approaching the Jonnie Walker building went down the right hand narrow strip next to the tram line to filter past two lanes of queued cars waiting to turn left onto Lothian Road (as I’m going straight on).
Bus driver came up behind and tooted a bit, I ignored as I’m concentrating on the tram line and everything else in front. Driver then said something like “utterly pointless” as he went past on my left as I waited to turn into Queensferry Street.
I don’t normally get aggro and find bus drivers especially generally courteous, is there another way you can do this manoeuvre such that I need to repost this as a confessional on todays bad cycling?
I saw a Lothian bus tailgate a cyclist very closely (as in <1 bike length) through there yesterday evening.
Utterly ridiculous given the history.
@resurf - No, there isn't. My preference is to get in between the tram tracks, if possible.
Just saw a cyclist hit by a driver who was turning right from North Bridge into Chambers Street. Witnessed by a couple of police officers, who stopped the cyclist from leaving.
I asked if they were all right, and they declined to take my details. If they happen to read this and change their mind, please get in touch.
I've had 2 near misses on that junction, both times me going straight, clearly visible, clearly going fast--driver still decides they have time to turn.
Hope the cyclist is ok.
It's one of the most dangerous junctions in the city for cyclists - 10 cyclists reported injured in the last five years of data.
I hadn't realised it was so bad. Next time, if I can, I'll try to get details and report it.
Columbus Blue Jackets winger Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew have died after they were struck by a vehicle while riding as “pedalcyclists” on Thursday, New Jersey state police said.According to police, a driver of a Jeep Grand Cherokee hit the Gaudreaus from behind while trying to pass an SUV on the right that had moved over to make way for the two pedalcyclists.
(Bear in mind that this was in the US where they drive on the right, thus passing on the right is "undertaking" - almost literally in this case.)

Good- I've seen the video but didn't want to post it due to the level of violence. Hopefully justice will be served.
I'm bemused by the use of the phrase "alleged assault" (or putting single quote marks around the word "assault", as some other media sources have done). It's perfectly clear from the video that an assault took place. The question is: was the chap in custody the perpetrator? And if so, are there any mitigating circumstances which might be offered in his defence? (I doubt it - though, as everyone knows, if a cyclist says a rude word then that's a get out of jail free card for the motorist.)
If only the local msp want against any measure the council tried to put in place to stop the dominance of motor traffic.
Much as I approve of speed cameras to help prevent general speeding, they aren't going to stop the antisocial behaviours described by ACH. And even if they did cause a minor success in Queensferry, the boy racers will simply move elsewhere.
If I were in the shoes of a politician wanting to do something meaningful, I'd start by banning "pop-and-crackle" kits nationwide. With heavy fines, along with citizen reporting through video footage and a police web-portal.
A single car with a pop-and-crackle kit can literally wake up tens of thousands of residents, when driven at night through a city.
And let's not forget the underlying causes of antisocial behaviour, namely:
- lack of amenities accessible on foot (particularly relevant to teenagers not yet able to drive, and so embedding car culture from an early age)
- lack of community caused by car-dominated planning and lack of investment*
- car culture, "drive everywhere" mentality, particularly in satelite towns
*no money to invest because they are spending absurd amounts of it accomodating cars in towns and cities
Today's rubbish driving was brought to you by the Beef Tub-bound NC500 fanboy in the bright orange Lamborghini who was rounding a corner using one and a half lanes of the A701 to accommodate his great speed and giant ego, and gave this Edinburgh-bound touring motorbiker a hell of a scare.
If this touring motorbiker had been in the touring campervan a mile or two behind me, there might have been an RTC as unpleasant as that on the A66, whose Police blockaded aftermath bestie and I witnessed earlier this afternoon.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary were at a car meet in Westmead, Farnborough, yesterday evening (September 27) after co-ordinating with organisers. But as someone pulled up in a BMW M2, the vehicle was seized and the driver was arrested.
It is alleged the vehicle had been seen doing doughnuts while in Southampton last Saturday (September 21). The news comes after a BMW M3, a Ford Fiesta and a Volkswagen Golf were also seized earlier this week, and two people arrested

Grant originally faced a charge of attempting to murder the man but the Crown accepted his guilty plea to attacking him to his injury and the danger of life on August 24 last year.
Grant was freed on bail at Inverness Sheriff Court in April last year with a condition imposed on him that he did not drive or attempt to drive.
On the same day as the attack on the cyclist, he also drove at two pedestrians at Lower Kessock Street, Inverness, forcing them to take evasive action to avoid being hit.

Looks almost identical to the crash outside the zoo a few months back. But yet... there is literally nothing we can do to stop this happening...
One reason the short of thinking people buy these enormous ridiculous vehicles is their alleged safety and yet we have this Beethoven effect quite frequently?

Craig McComb, 37, struck the back of an e-bike being ridden by a pensioner on the A92 in Glenrothes, on August 12, 2022.
