Jeez. I’d think I’d report that despite the attendant hassle:

This article could go in the sentient being thread but it seems likely some form of rubbish driving was involved. https://www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/news/edinburgh-crash-10-year-old-girl-taken-to-hospital-after-being-hit-by-car-in-drum-brae-north-4896888

First commute in the red torpedo for a year and I was nearly taken out by Mr Important in his big VW. I was in the segregated cycle lane northbound on Craigmillar Park and the driver in front braked, immediately swung left and turned left into Suffolk Road.

Ironically, had I not been in the segregated lane I would have had plenty of room to move right or left. As it is I had to emergency stop.

That reminds me that a week ago I saw the driver of a road sweeper van (one of the big left-hand drive ones) going down Gilmerton Road. He came to a bus stop, where there was obviously a gap in the cycle lane defenders, so he swung in to get back to the kerb. I'm not even sure that he noticed the cyclist who he missed by inches.

    @mcairney

Caught a cracker this afternoon- pillock on a motorbike deciding to simultaneously overtake me and undertake a car MV66 YFB.

    @murun

Jeez. I’d think I’d report that despite the attendant hassle:

A199 toward Eastfield - my regular commute on motorbike but I agree, that was dangerous and aggressive. https://vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/ says it is NOT taxed since Oct 1 2024 and MOT expired in Feb 2024. Hence said pillock's insurance is invalid but he's still paying for it. Trifecta.

Defo Email in footage to EdinburghCIUCorstorphine@scotland.police.uk with above info and they might just pass it on to Traffic. (They requested doorcam footage from me recently and were happy to receive via Email)

(Prob recommend making the YT Video private until you get a NFA or positive outcome from polis)

    https://www.thenational.scot/news/24779966.driver-causes-significant-damage-historic-stirlingshire-tower/

AN ELDERLY driver has allegedly crashed into a memorial clock tower in Stirlingshire causing significant damage as police appeal for witnesses.

The 78-year-old woman, driving an orange Mini Cooper, crashed three times before finally striking the 126-year-old Paterson Memorial Clock in Bridge of Allan at around 4.20pm on Friday.

The driver, who was the only occupant of the car, is believed to have first struck a barrier as she exited a car park on Henderson Street before driving onto Union Street, where she then proceeded to hit two parked cars.

She was then taken to Forth Valley Royal Hospital for treatment and was later discharged.

Police have said that she will be the subject of a report to the procurator fiscal for alleged road traffic offences.

In a post shared to social media the Bridge of Allan Community Council said it was saddened by the news of the clock face being “destroyed”.

The post read: “The Paterson Clock has long been a cherished landmark in our village, and we know how much it means to the community.

Man hit by a bus on southern corner of Hanover / George St junction today. Sounds like a bad scene. Edinburgh Reporter article (not much more info)

    Hi @le_soigneur thanks, that's helpful.
I've set the video to private and still mulling over calling 101. If nothing else the fine and the points can go towards their Christmas party I suppose.

Iwill admit to having a healthy dislike of people on motorbikes in general.

And I say all that as a mostly reformed petrolhead myself who still uses the 0-60 time as the primary figure when buying a car!

That's the same argument as drivers justifing a healthy dislike of people on bicycles in general.

Agreed, Arellcat. Some people behave badly while riding a motorcycle. Some people behave badly while driving a car. Some people behave badly while riding a bicycle. That doesn't mean that all users of XYZ form of transport are badly behaved, or deserve dislike.

Full disclosure: I've never ridden a motorcycle in my life.

Unconfirmed reports that the incident on George St that @bakky linked to involved the bus driving through the railing and hitting a man on the pavement.

Maybe so, and it's admittedly a failing on my part but in my experience you don't buy vehicles that will comfortably break every speed limit on the land in 1st gear and that can go well over 200mph to ride them sedately at the speed limit.

What fraction of the motorbikes on the road can even do 200mph?

None as far as I know. There was a gentlemen's agreement between Japan and Europe as of 2000 that production bikes should not exceed 300km/h. Both BMW and MV Augusta have built production bikes that are a little faster.

My motorbike will touch 150mph. If we are being tarred with the same brush then I take issue with the presumption that I would ride it as such.

I also take issue with the notion that every motorbike is capable of such speeds. Bestie's bike might manage 70mph in top with a tail wind, if it didn't hit its rev limiter first.

The photo collage on the police appeal article shows the railings clearly under the bus.

Maybe motorcyclists have as many tribes as pedal cyclists. The ones that are the target of my ire are the over-biked middle-aged weekend warriors on Kawasaki Ninjas and Honda Fireblades. My dislike started with a bunch of them flying past me like I was standing still, a couple of them popping wheelies, when I was driving along the A76 at the legal limit a few years ago and a few recent incidents, including the most recent Youtube video.
Confirmation bias etc, and I suspect the ones I take issue with are a small, if visible, minority.

Mmm, weekend warrior motorbike groups. During the summer I find it instructive to observe the northbound traffic in Callander on a sunny weekend morning.

First comes the police speed check van and its escort units which will setup in Strathyre (handy for the Village Shop and Broch Cafe with its pies).

Then will come, often at great speeeeeeed, wave after wave of middle-aged blokes on powerful motorbikes. Much vroom vroom.

A bit later still, along come the ambulances.

Usually too a trip northwards will find a number of "customers" of the speed check at Strathyre, pulled over in the layby. Amazing that checkpoint ever catches anyone given it's always there...

Exactly, so don't tar all motorcyclists with the same brush, any more than you'd accept that all pedal cyclists run red lights while cycling on the pavement and having no lights etc etc etc.

(I have a friend who used to drive a BMW. He got very fed up with "jokes" about did he have to order the special model with working indicators...)

I've just joined the ranks of BMW drivers. The indicators are actually very nice. I'm surprised more people don't use them.

A vehicle was driven onto the park, tearing the surface apart from goalmouth to goalmouth. This senseless act of destruction has left the pitch unplayable and caused significant damage to a facility that means so much to our club and community.

Used to see that regularly at a number of Edinburgh Council pitches. Jack Kane was the worst, you’d get kids on scrambler bikes riding across the pitch DURING matches!
