  1. I'm pondering options, with sights firmly set on decent photos. I'm thinking, having looked at the route, that a spot along the Talla Reservoir, with the water, hills and road they've just descended in the background, would make for some crackers. If I was doing that I'd most likely drive somewhere about 20 miles from there and ride to it and then back to the car. Not sure I'd be up for the 80 odd mile round trip. Though it's tempting. Agh. What to do what to do...

Thor Hushovd is riding! That's the type of thing that makes actually being at the start tempting, but I'd rather get riding shots.

Pick somewhere with decent mobile reception so that you can check the riders' position through the mobile internet.

    Cavendish is also riding.

If you are at Talla will you not be shooting into the sun? The Reservoir points roughly ESE and it will be fairly early in the day.

St. Mary's Lake points in a wore NE direction.

There's a short hill after Gordon Arms cross road which might slow them down a bit to get a better change at some shots.

  5. Talla's more 'dramatic' though. Part of my ponderings was on settign up a remote flash, which would negate the 'sun in the background' and create an even more dramatic effect. But. I don't want to cause a crash in the peleton!

It sure is more dramatic! I'm sure you could find a bend in the road that would let you photograph from the best angle. You'll want to cycle in from the West (A701) though unless you want to have to cycle up over the Wall of Talla to get back to the car!

  7. Oh yes, that was a given. If the weather's nice Mel might join me, which will mean a parking spot fairly near the turn from the A701 onto the Talla road. In touch with one of the organisers on Twitter (who had a go at me last year for suggesting it wasn't a Tour of Britain before we settled down to civility).
