If I was to come by car (gasp, hiss!), is it possible to park up at the top of MMW, or inside George Sq, at that time of the morning?
Leaving work at 4pm to go to a wedding in Wales (!!) with friends so I have a good excuse ;-)
CityCyclingEdinburgh was launched on the 27th of October 2009 as "an experiment".
IT’S TRUE!
CCE is 15years old!
Well done to ALL posters
It soon became useful and entertaining. There are regular posters, people who add useful info occasionally and plenty more who drop by to watch. That's fine. If you want to add news/comments it's easy to register and become a member.
RULES No personal insults. No swearing.

Dave you mean you're not up for another 1200 km to Wales and Back over the weekend? Pffft
yeah, there should be parking on george square - at least this week. less likely next week. also Buccleuch place
good underground parking if you take the car into Qmile, not too expensive either from what I recall
I cycled up and down MMW today ans saw a car parked on the grass outside the back of the Med school.
I didn't make it, the wife wanted dropped off on her way to work :(
Once again, sorry I didn't have a chance to catch up with folk (I'm not sure I've ever had a proper chat with Morningsider, and missed out on a Tarmac Jockey experience - ah well, as ever there's always next time).

Very nice to meet tarmac jockey and other old friends (Min, I'm sure you're right, we have met, but you looked different today! No buff?).
Yes! I have just had my hair done and a buff squashes it... perhaps despite my assertions to the contrary, I don't like ruining my hairdo after all? It's only once every couple of months though. And it got ruined anyway because of the rain. :-(
Nice to see a good turnout, despite the manky weather.
So who was all there? I was gabbing loudly on the periphery as usual (sorry, loud and boorish, I know, I blame the cinnamon/caffeine interaction).
PS, glad for that mm gap between the cotics, what with the whole matter/anti-matter/stream crossing/etc. We could have had a huge marshmallow man on our hands, or even a huge cinnabun man.
mmm, cinnabunman.
"mmm, cinnabunman."
Sounds like last night's Simpsons episode!
Morning all - nice to chat with SRD (+ mini SRD), Roibeard and Tarmac Jockey (generally agreed to be a great name). Many thanks to SRD for the loan of a lock. Hope to chat with the rest of you at some point - perhaps a less rushed meet-up is in order?
Yes, I think another attempted evening meet-up should be in order.... Or a weekend ride.
Dear Peter's Yard,
I have often visited Peter's yard with my family and with a group of cyclists that meets there sometimes on Friday mornings.
Today I brought my 9 month old baby along, and was disappointed to discover that you have no high chairs. As I had come by bike, I had no buggy to put him in. I now realise that the reason PY is always so full of buggies is because parents keep their children in them, owing to the lack of high chairs. I was also disappointed that the toilet had no facilities for changing babies, when there is clearly room for a fold-down changing table.
For a shop that does so much business from young families, I am really surprised that so little effort is made to accommodate them. Surely a stack of 2 or 3 high chairs would fit easily in a corner?
I hope you will consider and rethink this policy.
...which is funny, cos every cafe in Sweden has that IKEA bucket highchair we all have :)

May I vote for a Saturday? I might have a 15% chance of being available! Of course, if everyone else has a 100% chance of making a Sunday...

Hmmm, there must be a market for an easily detachable bike child seat that converts into a high chair!
Ooo yes a Satruday ride would be nice.
We too used to have an Ikea seat which we gave away.... Good letter/email SRD, and nice to meet you and the wee Bran, He's lovely and gave me a cheeky wee smile as I was preparing to leave...
I made it along at last to PY for a cup of coffee and a meet. Never managed to catch up with everyone but there is always next time.

@SRD - just wheel bike in say it's your superbuggy.

we shouldn't let you design cycling infrastructure then!
Thank you to anth and SRD for presents (team Citycycling bowling shirt in black and orange and orange and Old Pultney marmalade, if you missed them).
Sorry for letting the side down and being in Lycra shorts and cycling shirt... I did consider coming cyclechic, but it wasn't the weather for it.
If Saturday ride co-incides with low tide I'd suggest we take in the Prom at Porty and do a bit of beach cycling. It's great fun.
thanks for your e-mail.
I think we will be looking at having facilities for changing in the loo, but I´m not sure about the high chairs. We really would need more space . .
The fact that we have decided to bake everything on site has taken away quite a bit of space, compared to if we would have had things delivered. Like most places.
.... one of our bakers has very kindly been storing a lot of stuff .... that we can´t find space for at PY. So there aren´t really any corners available.
Perhaps PY should expand then...
... so there is room for prams... but not for 'a' highchair (which is about what 2 sqft)
Had the school run to do instead. Maybe next month/year
SRD - good effort. The reply from PY confirms my view that they don't want to encourage people with young children (not cool enough I suspect). A commercial baby changing unit costs about £200 and the stackable IKEA high chairs are £10.99 each (table an extra £4).
The argument that there is no room is laughable, a pile of high chairs takes up the room of a single chair. The excellent Rocket cafe at Churchill is about a fifth the size of PY and they manage to both bake their own cakes and have high chairs.
Evening meeting would be good, preferably somewhere I can walk to as I am not allowed back on the bike till the end of October.
...and Dave Legrys - 126mph roller record
I think that clip really ought to be accompanied by the appropriate music.
I was in the vicinity of PY this morning after staggering off the Caley Sleeper with substantially less than seven hours' sleep, but went along Princes St and up Lothian Rd in preference to the slog up Market St. An evening meetup would be good.
@SRD I have passed your comments above to a contact I have at PY and received the following reply:
"PetersYard Wendy Wilson-Bett We love families. Let me pass on your comment directly to Peter. Thanks for taking the time to point this out. Wendy"
I think they are genuinely keen to make changes to make the place more family friendly.
Thanks Kim!
