Interesting article. Made me check OSM for Glasgow - amazed how much detail is on there. Knowing where the traffic lights are is particularly useful. Any mappers on here? And does anyone know if it would be possible to indicate contraflow cyclepaths on the map? I can do the gps wielding bit, it's whether the markup could cope...

    "Any mappers on here? "

    Several

    BUT anyone can do it.

Really not that difficult. GPS not needed unless you plan to do long routes that haven't been added.

Now it's more a question of correcting any errors and adding details (almost infinite scope - all the shops on your street or post boxes etc).

I noticed that no-one had added Ronde today - it's there now!

OSM now uses Bing satellite images as the background to the edit page so things can be placed pretty accurately.

Contraflow bike lanes fairly easy, just add a new line where it is - make sure that it's connected to the relevant road at both ends - mark as cycle lane and also the direction of flow.

THEN save the changes - so play and don't save until you get the hang of it.

There are various 'smart' 'phone apps for adding "points of interest" while you are sitting in cafés (etc.)
