I have hear reports of a collision involving a cyclist and motor vehicle at the crossroads around 08:30 this morning. Anyone know anything more?

Unfortunately not, sorry.
My partner came off his bike yesterday morning (after colliding with a wayward road sign) near Haymarket and got some abuse from a builder passing by but nobody stopped to ask if he was ok when he clearly wasn't.
I sincerely hope that if it was a cyclist involved yesterday the general public were more helpful than that experienced by my partner.

Meepmeep - that is a real shame. i always stop, but usually feel somewhat silly saying 'are you okay' to someone who is clearly on their feet, or when others (probably better able to deal with first aid) have already stopped.
hope he's doing okay now...

I hope so too. Is he okay?
This is really horrible but unfortunately not very surprising. Last week I was cycling along the Innocent and there was a man running in front of me. He did a sort of double take at something but kept running. I looked round and saw a man and a bike just sprawled on the ground off to the side. It turned out he was just drunk and wanting a bit of a rest but initially it looked like he had had a bad crash. I have had quite a few occasions where if I had not been there then no-one would have helped the person. I even saw an old guy with a stick crashing to the ground last winter on the ice and everyone just ignored him. He was in the road and I could only hobble slowly towards him on the ice while drivers swerved round him and peds pretended it didn't happen.
Sorry to hijack the thread here but people really sicken me sometimes. I haven't seen anything in the news about a collision at Liberton brae so lets hope it is not too serious if so.

There was that guy (a pedestrian IIRC) who died in the road down south somewhere - the police found evidence that several commuters had just driven over him while he was still alive so they weren't too late for work.
Incredible really.

Back in the 1960s when ethics were lax and people were gullible the social psychologists were always running experiments where the stooges fell over and the public were recorded not helping. Sad but true.

Thanks for your concern. Mr MeepMeep tells me that he was on the pavement in visible distress. His IT director even walked over him! He's completely torn his AC ligament so, with wearing a helmet and little traffic, he's lucky it wasn't anythingwors e.
I studied psychology and sociology at uni so am aware of the studies referenced. I wasn't surprised that Mr MeepMeep only received help when he directly asked someone. You just assume though that with changing times would come a better awareness of others in society.
I've still seen nothing in the news about the Liberton Brae accident. Hoping that all involved (no matter transport method) are ok.

on theme of people helping or not...
Was on nursery run this morning and realised s'thing had fallen out of rucksack, and then discovered baby had also lost shoe. Stopped and tried to pick them up, but miscalled it, and ended up trying to hold bike up by stoker handlebars (which are not as secure as they should be, but swivel around). Bike ends up at 45-30 degree angle to the road, while rucksack spills contents everywhere.
Big middle-class/middle-aged bloke jogs right past - all lycra and buff and headphones - totally ignoring me. I yell 'thanks for helping out' in a sarcastic sort of way as a teenage girl on her way to Watson's with one wrist in a splint, comes to help, followed by male student(from chinese diaspora) heading to Napier , who comes charging up at top speed and insists on putting baby's shoe back on, making sure we are okay etc in the sweetest possible way.
Such nice, polite, helpful young people!!

I have stopped asking if anyone in trouble is OK. Instead I ask 'Is there anything I can do to help?'
Seems to work fine.
