    from a friend "Today was car free day in Brussels and suddenly the streets are full of bicycles and the public transport is free. Why don't we make this more than once a year?"

    Despite a fairly high level of complaints, I absolutely love it. What is very impressive is the extend of the "no cars" area: it's virtually the entire city, within the city bypass (about twice the size of Edinburgh?) from 9am to 7pm. It's quite magical to be able to cycle on large boulevards in the city center. Did they not try similar day once in Edinburgh, but it was something like "no cars for a couple of hours on george Street" or something ridiculous like that?
