    I read the article; demolition is on Sunday, but what time?

    The official invitation reads; The demolition of Glenalmond, Hermiston and Weir will take place on Sunday 25 September 2011 between 11am and 12pm. The "blowdown" will see them demolished one after the other due to concerns about Napiers glass building. Initially they wanted to bring them all down in one go.

    I passed that way with my partner yesterday evening and we were both wondering about this. I'll probably hop on my bike and head along with my camera to see if I can get a couple of photos.

    Being a wee country bumpkin, I've never seen me a big city demolition before!

    You'd have thought they would've brought them all down prior to Napier building their supercampus?

    Napier already had buildings there - should be fun to see the exclusion zone covered in a cloud of dust and people running again as happened with the biiiiig block

    Take note: the last blowdown at Gracemount was 2.5 hours late. All tenants in the low level flats in the area have to be evacuated. All it takes is for one person to resist or refuse to leave and the whole schedule is delayed. Make sure your water bottles or flask is full before leave home.

    Aye, Napier had a campus there before but it was probably better viewed through a cloud of dust!

    Assuming the weather does what it normally does, it'll be better to watch the demo' from somewhere westwards (a CCE visit to Stevenson College, perhaps?), though since the flats are largely on the A71 ridge, I might park myself somewhere high up on Kaimes Road. I don't think there's much of a view from the bridge where the Lanark Road crosses the bypass, but maybe from the nearby green spaces.

    I was going to try Costorphine somewhere rather than finding somewhere nearby on the ground, though there ought to be time to scoot between viewing-locations between blasts.

    I'm over at my parents place on Friday, will see what views are like from there.

    The tram bridge at Edinburgh Park might be a good viewpoint!

    Possibly the bridge between Stenhouse Drive and Carrick Knowe Ave? Much may depend on which way the wind blows on the day.

    I had a quick check at the top of Clermiston Road last night and there was a clear view of the three blocks. It wasn't as far up as Corstorphine Hill.

    Though talking of Corstorphine Hill, you'd probably get a cracking view somewhere up there. I'm hoping to be closer to the action for some photos, possibly the boundaries of the park.

    Hmmm. Maybe popping a bit of the way up Lanark Road might be better. Slightly closer than the top of Costorphine. My longest lens is 105mm so I was just going to try and get some timelapse of the dust clouds expanding and dissipating.

    Thanks for the map MeepMeep. I had heard that the Calder Road was going to be closed too. I guess there can still be road closures outwith the exclusion zone.

    The only other demolition I saw was the flats at Oxgangs:

    That one was delayed by 40 mins or so. The rumour going around was that someone thought they might possibly have seen someone going into the flats. Presumably they had to delay things whilst the entire block was searched.

    When Broomview came down, the best views were from over by the 6-a-side pitches. My photos at http://www.flickr.com/photos/studyview/sets/72157607412476583/
    which I think are set to public. Not sure any of my firends lived in these blocks. I certainly had friends who had lived in Broomview.

    The A71 west of Saughton Road/Longstone Road will be shut 10.00-16.00 on Sunday.

    I watched the Oxgangs demolitions from nearby and the delay was because people were inside the cordon, some of whom were in a rather greater state of undress than the good Embra Pleece would have liked.

    Three multi storey blocks at North Sighthill in Edinburgh are due to be demolished this weekend to make way for the regeneration of the area.

    Glenalmond, Hermiston and Weir Courts - once home to 285 households - will be demolished by the controlled use of explosives on Sunday (25 September).

    Media will be invited to film the event but members of the public are being advised to watch the demolition live on the Stevenson College website as there are no official viewing areas for the demolition. After the event it will also be shown on the Council's own You Tube channel.

    Reasonable view from wee grassy bit next to the pedestrian bridge over Clovenstone Road, though you might get a bunch of kids trying to drop a bottle of cola on your head if you visibly resemble a cyclist...

    Lanark Road wasn't any use. Kingsknowe golf course would probably be ideal.

    Not much spectator-space but a reasonable view from the Stenhouse-Carrick Knowe over-train-track-bridge:

    Didn't have time to reconnoitre up Kaimes.

    From the overbridge at Edinburgh Park station you have a fairly close view of the upper two-thirds of the flats, but Stevenson College hides the rest, so their final moments won't be visible.

    How about here?

    well, not exactly there (Bypass) but on the next road over, on the railway bridge.

    Advantages
    * on cycle path
    * not generally known about
    * hard and flat surfaces for tripods
    * cars can't get to it unless they have Edinburgh Park barrier access token
    * should be quiet
    * you can line up the towers so you can see all three at once
    * you should be able to get an angle where neither Stevenson college or Napier get in the way

    I'd imagine you'd get a good view around the Kaimes Road area. I was up Clermiston Road earlier in the week and there was a good, clear view of the three blocks.

    ok, looks like a southwesterly wind and sunny intervals, is there an agreement on best place to spectate tomorrow? :-)
    In fact, is there a cake/coffee shop in range?!?

    Coffee shop, Smudge? That would be to ignore the classic bicycle - flask - demolition grouping.

    Despite having my flask and some food and my tripod packed I'm probably only going to get as far as Costorphine by 1100.

    Having unloaded our first load of baby kit last night I fear I may miss this and instead be clearing out the front room/nursery :-/
    Ahh well, I can watch it on the webcam I guess :-)
