This is the bike I'm using. It's the only geared road bike I've got. Gonna treat myself to a new one next summer. http://www.flickr.com/photos/63792836@N00/6171923280/

I've done a lot of miles on it and it's never complained. Not bad for a tenner off gumtree.

Hard to beat a well made 531 frame/forks!

This was great!! 3 days of total bike geekery! We opted to tone down our aspirations of heroicness and do the 135km instead of the 205km. Looks like we made the right choice. The weather was hot hot hot and the hlls were steeeeep. 10% in some cases and on the strade bianchi if you stand up your back wheel just spins out and you fall off. managed the whole thing wthout walking though.
Some fantastic bikes too. At one point I got overtaken going up a steep hill by a guy on a retro direct. Some photo's here. http://www.flickr.com/photos/68298609@N03/

Love the low profile dayglo pink Moser TT bike with the disc wheel on the back. Must be terrible up hills though...

Sounds like you had a great time.

recombo - From your pictures, seems like a lot of single speed (presume not fixies?) or was that just what caught your eye ?

Have to be honest, I love old frames with SS - so elegant and simple - much more bikeporn for me than any new bling.

What do the funny levers do on the diagonal?

There were a lot of single speeds and fixies but also a lot of early 2and 3 speeds. The weird levers change the front gears on that bike ( if you mean the blue one ). Moser actually took part in the ride ( I swear I saw the sheriff ). The truly heroic 205ers got to get their photo taken with paulo Bettini. I've got more photo's of the actual ride that 'll put up when flikr is behaving it's self.

    The food stops were unbelievable...........

Two years on - the British version -

    "

With the event capped – and sold-out at – 2,000 riders it always promised to be something different from the standard sportive that can be found every weekend around the country. Styled on the classic Eroica in Italy, the British version was an opportunity for riders of classic bikes to get them out en-masse and really get to grips with the Derbyshire countryside. And how they set about to do just that.

I was there (the Derbyshire version). Won an entry for me and a mate through Brooks. Really great event, we had a fantastic weekend.
