I've Clarenced this, but not sure if it's under their control. Nasty barrier between Fishwives' Causeway and Mountcastle Park. It's on my new traffic-free-ish (but hilly) commuting route.

The dip at the junction of Princes St and North Bridge has reappeared, after being filled a few months ago, so I've Clarenced it again.

I've reported the top of Leith Street, heading north, (inside lane is a set of waves in the tarmac, presumably caused by buses) and the huge hole that has appeared at the taxi rank outside the Playhouse.

I've Clarenced Whitehouse Loan, between St Margaret's Rd and EBC. I could hardly believe how bad it was when I went along there yesterday. It's impossible to avoid the holes/patches no matter where you steer.

Yes, a missed opportunity, since they had closed the road and had all the equipment there for 3 months this year, but only managed to relay 100 yards of pavement and an 8-foot wide strip of tarmac. Bonkers.

@Snowy - indeed - when the work was on I stupidly assumed they were addressing that bit of road, but unbelievably they left leaving that section untouched… I couldn't quite believe it.

The dip in the tarmac at the junction of Princes St and North Bridge has appeared again, after having been filled in twice just in the last few months. Clarenced again.

If it's blocking the highway, the Police can do something about it, if it's not, I don't think they can. (Recall this from Gilmore Place Caravangate).

I've got it on good authority from a colleague that a policeperson once "advised" him that if the tyres were to be let down on an offending caravan, it would be classed as not roadworthy and the police could have it removed in a jiffy. Until the mystical deflation conveniently happened, they were powerless. I can recant the full details of the story at Coffee / Beer. Enquire within.

@IWRATS - that caravan appeared on Sunday night, I think. When I went by last night, there were two pick-up trucks parked near it. One sported an enormous satellite dish. I assumed that the three vehicles were related and something to do with the GSR traffic census.

However, seeing the caravan in the cold light of this morning, it's pretty clear that it's been dumped and it isn't roadworthy...

It could also move mystically into the roadway.

I mean cars mystically manage to get on to the pavements, without driving on them, all the time.

@Greenroofer et al (italics purely to wind up @gembo)

It surely is abandoned. Plates off, dumped squint in layby with no room for towing vehicle.

Thanks for the twittering. Path is narrow there as it is, no room for rotting caravans.

Over a year ago I asked them to fix *all* the traffic lights on this unnamed road:

    http://goo.gl/maps/2VRWz

Yet they are all still off

Well, now that the clocks have gone back, I'm back cycling this road in the dark. Except I noticed tonight that the street lights are now working. \o/

    I tweeted last night
"Careful cycling south in bus lane of Craigmillar Park - there are massive unsigned ramps and exposed ironwork. Can't see in dark @south_team"

"@amironabike Apologies for this - our team has spoken with the contractor & will ensure it is corrected for tonight. Thanks for reporting"

    Good response

Perhaps taking advantage of the lighter traffic this morning, there was a team loosely tamping some squidgy tarmac into the giant potholes next to the bus stops in the bus lane alone Elm Row southbound this morning. Their official twenty-stone-man-wearing-boots must be on holiday as the tamping was being done with the flat of a rake.

If it's as good as the recent repairs on London Road bus lanes it should have a life expectancy of 2, maybe even 3 days.

I'm not sure the bus stop at Barnton lasted more than 24 hours before the gravel had spilled from It's repair.

They were also out putting lumps on the Kirkliston - Burnshot road.

Burnt out motor scooter at side of NEPN at the Ainslie Park electricity sub-station, on Selex side of the path.

Fallen tree on NEPN between Craigleith and Ravelston Dykes, has been cut away a bit but you still have to get off and carry your bike over it.

Pair of potholes on Redheughs Avenue at the South Gyle Crescent roundabout, recently filled with soft tarmac which has already worn out, holes are now bigger and deeper and are regularly hidden under pooling water.

    Reported Wednesday 08/04/2015
Broken (sunken) manhole cover on Oxgangs Road North next to the closed access to Redford Barracks. I'm tired of hitting it or nearly hitting it every day.

    Reported Wednesday 08/04/2015
The mega-pothole that has reappeared on the Princes St/North Bridge junction. Yesterday I watched a southbound bus's wheels crash over it with a whacking great bang that can't have been fun for passengers. Today I nearly sent my front wheel into it.

I've reported that potcrater too, after it nearly chucked me off on my way to work...

Last Thursday I was cycling from Waterloo Place to Princes St (heading for George St) and I very nearly put the torpedo straight into a huge crater, just by the NB I think. Owing to the low eyeline and poor contrast I saw it only at the very last minute, but managed to swerve out of the way.

Can anyone tell me if it's still there?

    Why wouldn't it be...

That dip in the road just on the right turn from Princes St to N Bridge keeps getting reported, filled in, then subsiding again. I Clarenced it it about 3 weeks ago, haven't been by that way recently to check on it.

There's another huge crater northbound on Leith Street just after the junction with Waterloo Place. Must be something to do with the volume of buses and other motor traffic in that area.

@Arellcat I went that way this morning, there's no sign that any of the epic cratering has had any repairs made.

    Reported via FixMyStreet 13/02/2016
A pair of potholes by the traffic lights on Colinton Road, at the junction with Craiglockhart Avenue. I've reported them, especially the one with all the sensor wires exposed. Don't be hitting it with Brompton-sized wheels.

    Reported via FixMyStreet 14/02/2016
A manhole cover halfway down Comiston Road just before the Braidburn Valley Park. The metal frame has become exposed as the surrounding road has been gradually pulverised and removed. I wonder what type of vehicle has the capability to do that?

Huge pothole developing in the westbound bus lane at West Coates, opposite Donaldson's. So deep that the brickwork is exposed.

I've reported it on FixMyStreet but watch out for it, especially if it fills up with rain.

    Re fixmystreet,

Why report road defects to a middle person who hen reports to CEC? why not cut out the middle person and go direct. CEC have no obligation to take any reports from fixmystreet ??
