"I don't believe a bicycle is a transportation device. I think it's a recreation device. The big problem is people don't want to ride their bike in the rain or get sweaty before work."

They'd rather stay sweaty in their cars wondering when they are going to arrive.

Bikes are not considered by many (outside this forum) to be an 'essential'. Neither is a motorbike mind you.

A handy tip for any cyclist worried about arriving at work sweaty without showers at their office - pedal quite slowly then you don't sweat [unless hot summer] and you can save the energy for pushing it on way home. If hills can be avoided by going the long way round this also cuts down on the sweat. Obviously we follow highway code as much as cars but we do not need to stick to car routes. Assuming we have time and ain't running late.

Disaster for me at work we are being evicted and our new building is 5 miles nearer home, I am considering cycling to Ratho first then heading for the new building - kind of hinging on (that could be a hinge or a hang, never spotted this before), anyway hinging on the underpass of the bypass at Edn Pk Station.

"Supervisor Cook needs to get out more. Every day people in Fairfax County use bicycles to get to work, shops, and to run errands. They use bikes to get to Metro, to libraries, and yes, some even ride to jobs at the Government Center."
