Turns out poor lass had biked her Pashley into the canal, paniers & phone too, had dredged it out but was now late for meeting! #happytohelp

Poor woman, hope she got dry/home ok. At least it was warm I suppose!

She fell into the canal and her dress made of sugar paper disintegrated? Sounds a bit Kenny Everett - and suddenly all her clothes fell off.

Should've used ortliebs, buoyancy and waterproofness all in one! ;-) Mind you, a Pashley must take a bit of lifting :-o
What caused her to ride into the canal anyway? You didn't knock her in did you? ;-)

Actually, thinking about it, did you look for hidden cameras/students? Sure it wasn't a set up by psychology students to test passing cyclists helpfulness/perviness (i.e. who would take the opportunity to take photos of the poor lass's predicament....) ;-D

In my day psychology students would merely observe each other invading the personal space of people sitting working/reading/eating on the steps under the Potterow dome.

    "under the Potterow dome"

    This changed its usage.

Interstingly my daydreams of going into the canal all have me following the bike into the drink. It sounds to me that this resourceful, wellspoken, unfortunate and scantily clad young woman, lost control somehow of her pashley but stayed on the banking whilst it rolled in. She disrobed and attached her business suit to the brambles then waded in and rescued the bike. Got the bike and pannier out, whilst waiting to dry asked Iain Stewart (keyboard player in Rolling Stones] for his phone, rearranged her mmeting, got dressed, got back on the bike, cycled to work and bought Kazakstan for some Chinese investors.

Whilst typing I am struck that this scenario has similarities to films where the man comes round to install a telephone?

"Iain Stewart (keyboard player in Rolling Stones]"

Sadly no longer in a position to help anyone in distress (damsel or otherwise).

"Interstingly my daydreams of going into the canal all have me following the bike into the drink."

Don't you mean "following the drink"?

Yes Iain was the name of the man who tweeted about the woman in her pants. I just bent it to the Stones Ian Stewart as I am a fan of their earlier work

All of their entire ouevre until after Sticky Fingers. Some parts of their later work, e.g. All About You - the last track on Emotional Rescue [which of course is Keith singing, also as the bass is particularly good, I imagine Keith on the bass - this is common with the Stones, you think ooh, that is a nice bass line, turns out Keith came in and laid the track over Wyman - Wyman also good bass player but Keith better]. Start Me Up from the next album Tattoo You is still going strong. Keith pushing it a bit on that album with She's My Little T &A, I find that to be the end really. 1984

That is 20 years of superlative output [petering at the end]. The Beatles were only there for 8 years. Artistes such as Bowie or Neil Young who have retained credibility for 30 years have re-invented themselves many times.

    "until after Sticky Fingers"

I take it you're including Exile.

The next - GHS - is often underated.

After that, generally a track or two per album.

Undercover - perhaps just the title track.

    Sideways - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk_Is_Cheap

Is this OT - or just Friday evening??

YEs to Exile and to your other points. Returning to the Canal - I cycled from Spiers Wharf in Glasgow to Ratho Climbing Centre on the Forth and Clyde, then Union Canals. Came off at Wynchburgh to try to avoid the motorbikes but they got me at Broxburn.

As I knew, the puddles from Possil March Nature Reserve until just before Falkirk were atrocious. before Twechar there is a gate that if anyone does this trip in all but high summer they should lift their bike over and use the quiet road that will take you all the way to Twechar where you can re-join. Highlights for me - pigeon loft at Maryhill, Nolly Brig [purely personal nostalgia], Cadder Kirk, Craft Daft on a Raft [after Cadder], the amazing schools and college either side of the canal at Kirkintilloch and the connecting bridge, bagpipes at Wyndford [western half Wyndford - many names repeated across the 60 miles], the Falkirk Wheel [only takes 8 kettles worth of power to work it did you know?] three deer beyond the Falkirk Wheel. Niddry Castle [note - West :Lothian Niddry] in the gloom. Even the outdoor drinkers of Possil and the broxburn boy racers were all well behaved.

THe eastern half was significantly more dry, both in terms of waterlogging and replies to my cheery bonhomie [or irritating friendliness]. THere were more cyclists in the East. Both of these could be due to weather being very wet in Glasgow [it did follow me across but the downpour we are experiencing now was in Glasgow yesterday at this time].

I see the canal/s being used in schools and it could be used more - flora, fauna, economic and social history, geography, architecture, class war, Burke & HAre, engineering, fun.

I did the route on my 3 spd upright It took one hell of a beating. It is not a route for drop handled bikes with skinny tyres [the only one of these that I saw had a puncture, well I saw one other at Falkirk Wheel - EBC tourer but it was suspiciously clean and went back on the road]. Many detours as I am convinced there is a more efficient route from the Canal beyond Linlithgow coming east to Balerno [but maybe no way of avoiding the hill at the end]. 6 hours tops. But on a dry day with wind behind, and fewer detours could be done in 5 hours. There are many gates and bridges but also many long flat stretches. The width of the path varies, on the whole wider in the east. Two good tunnels, three good aqueducts [if you count Longstone].

    @Gembo

Think that post (or perhaps divided versions) needs to be used to start another thread(s) - such as -

    Riding the canals from Glasgow

    Educational possibilities of cycle paths
