Another path upgraded beside Water of Leith

Not sure if it's been reported on here, but we were out for a walk today and spotted that the short stretch of path between West Bowling Green Street and the Warriston Path (path right beside the Water of Leith) has been resurfaced over the last week and is now beautifully wide and tarmaced. No street lights though.

I think it's going to be part of my route to work from now on.

    Hi,

Yep, the back story to this small, but important improvement can be found here:

This is part of my daily nursery run and was always a bit of an annoyance considering the rest of the way is smooth as. So small improvement makes a big difference.

Although Rose will miss tearing through the inevitable muddy puddle at the bottom, I'll not miss the feeling I'd be sliding sideways into the watter at any moment.

Meanwhile, on the bit between the WoL/Victoria junction and St. Mark's path:

The temporary path closure advertised on wee bits of paper on sticks appears to be over:

The temporary barriers which had been dumped on the allotment-waste-heap-space have also been cleared away.
The most obvious change to the path is a bit of improved fencing on the other side of the underpass and the creation of some drainage on the bit near the old chimbley:

Buuuuut, the path has also been scraped a bit cleaner and some gravel dumped into the bigger holes, so it's maybe going to have something else done to it. There's also a noticeable scraping-clean of the steeper of the two paths leading up to the Victoria/WoL junction:

There's also still a dumper truck, a skip and half a tonne of gravel in a dumpy bag beside Connaught Place, so there's maybe something else happening, though presumably nothing as useful as the tarmac applied to the W. Bowling Green St. link two years ago.

    I was there today too!

Well past the 'path closed' dates - assume only weekdays when something is happening(?)

Seems much more open/light - taken quite a bit of vegetation away.

Think there is still a fair bit of path surfacing to do.

    It's 'parks' rather than 'transport'.

    @ w

Similar to your picture above, this shows the much needed drainage and (I presume) indicates further surfacing to be done -

    Further surfacing:

Both slopes up to main WoL path being done too.

Hang on, that last photo makes it look like they are replacing all the mud with a solid surface. Can it be true? Will it be rolled out on the actual path?

Car in the garage tomorrow for brake work and to fix a slow flat. Seems worth it.

Due to mud in the house and excessive bike cleaning demands, better half and I have an agreement that WoL path is off-limits. We haven't ridden to do the shopping in I-don't-know-how-long.

    Looks like tarmac to me!

Maybe they'll move on to Ford's Road -

Potential for important new section of WoL Walkway

Anderson Pl/WBGS site has been cleared.

Presume it will be a planning condition to put in 3 (or more) metre path(?)

Is that 12/01840/FUL, which would seem to have a path from the Anderson Pl bridge round to the W Bowling Green St bridge?

Can't some docs to open, but this has a path right round the edge -

    Dear Kenneth,

Thank you for your call today. Just to re-iterate the comments we have with regard to the West Bowling Green Street development:

We would like to see further details of the proposed extension to the Water of Leith Walkway including; surface treatments, lighting, the bollards, railings, and landscaping associated with the river.

Also the Walkway only section to the north of the site is unclear on the plans. Will it be ramped, stepped, what is the surface treatments, how high is it above the river etc. Water of Leith Walkway signage would also be needed to ensure continuity.

I am a little concerned that we were not consulted with these revised plans, and I have only found them by chance.

Could you ensure we are kept in the loop on this development.

    Kind regards

There is now a single bollard at the top of the shallower (riverside) slope down from the junction with the Victoria Path.

There was a mini steamroller parked up on Fords road where they've been widening / relaying the path. Not sure if they will tarmac it or just replace/repair the existing aggregate and dust path.

    The path in saughton park?

    "The path in saughton park?"

That would be good (too) but think this is the meander upstream round the grassy bit.

I would be disappointed if this isn't tarmaced - a previous stone & dust version ended up on the grass and made it impossible to (safely) play football because of the 2000 flood.

Ah yeah, I always just use the road to the bathroom warehouse as is dead end for cars. Used to get huge puddles tho.

Yes, the meander betwixt Ford's Road and the Gorgie Road crossing.

    Yes, and neatly implemented drainage.

This was the Fords Road path today.

Can't believe it's 'finished' or waiting for tarmac.

    Asked on Twitter.
