Cyclists take part in Stirling 'bike train' commute

A "bike train" has been launched in Stirlingshire to encourage commuters to cycle and to make their journeys safer.

Sounds like a really good idea.

Interesting that they are starting from the station but don't hint at any issue with train capacity. I sometimes try to use the Embra/Dunblane train to get to Lgow and it often has no bike space by Haymarket and rarely any at Edinburgh Park.

    Maybe they are all Bromptonites?

@Crowriver, "other makes of folder are available" ;-))

Or maybe there is a large quantity of secure bike storage at the station? If they had a standard "bike train" timing and leaders it would surely be possible for the bike train members all to use one large locked ISO container?

Stirling is not renowned for high levels of cycle use. The University, which is really in Bridge of Allen probably generates a bit of cycle traffic.

In fact some new cycle lanes (some on the pavement) have appeared recently in the vicinity (there is also a new high school).

Stirling Station has quite a few bike lockers, but I've rarely seen them being used.

Over the last year or so I have noticed a lot more folders (from a starting point of zero) on the Edinburgh-Stirling train. Actually the number fluctuates, but there is usually one and on some occasions I've seen half a dozen.

OT, but somewhere around Sterling is the worst cycle facility I've ever had the misfortune to find myself in.

Screaming downhill with another rider on an audax, we moved left into this cycle lane to oblige the traffic, only to find it suddenly ending in a massive kerbstone literally at right angles to us. For a crossing if I remember correctly.

Of course, by then there was a good flow of (speeding) drivers at our elbow, but we made it out in time, somewhat shaken. At night I think I might have piled right into it at 30mph... thanks but no thanks.

IME the drivers in Perth are worse than the ones in Sterling, but it's based on just a few rides. There are a lot of roads with islands / constrictions in Perth where the drivers were just lunatic.
