Ooh, have you played with the CoC? Lovely things, even if they don't really mean much.

I saw these in the local shop but at £45 each I am not sure I will bother. Given I am not sure they will help with snow and I would prefer to just walk to work on the days it looks too much to be bothered.

Silly question time. Given that driving a nail into a tyre is generally considered to be "a bad thing", surely ensuring that dozens of nails are well seated in a tyre is equally a bad thing?

Once the tyre wears down, won't the spikes start to cause punctures themselves?

I know that the embedded tip won't be pointed like a normal nail, yet still can't shake the idea that eventually they'll be poking the inner tube.

Perhaps that's the stage that the tyres are too worn and need to be replaced anyway. However I don't normally think my commuter tyres are excessively worn until I can see canvas...

Since I have lost a few spikes I now know what they look like inside and they are very wide, rounded and smooth where they seat into the tyre. I would not be worried about them causing punctures. Plus the tyre inner seems to be pretty thick anyway.
