    ADDED BONUS

Edinburgh's key cycling cop will drop by -

"Delighted to turn up and have the banter with cyclists"

Answers to the name of Quentin - so if you're there 7.30ish say hello.

He's dead keen on road safety - including things like seeing if Lothian Buses style 'cycle aware' training could be adopted by other road users/companies.

Could have a guess the weight of his bike competition.

  4. Are we allowed a go on the bike? Would be interesting to see just how much stuff they have to lug around! Look forward to a chat (been wanting to do something on cycle cops in citycycling again for a while...)

Do the cops here have the standard issue Smith and Wessons?

(Love the fact that Smith and Wesson can't arm the cops here, but they get in the supply chain anyway)

Oh joy. Do you think he can explain why the Police view on cycle safety doesn't extend to actually doing anything about dangerous drivers that have been reported to them?

Think I might just skip it.

I think it might be worthwhile having that conversation.

It probably is but I look to look upon PY morning coffee as being a lovely relaxing thing and not something for which rage is now building up already..

Well, there's a big long table there, shop talk down one end, random mutterings t'other, fence sitters in middle.

Min "...the Police view on cycle safety doesn't extend to actually doing anything about dangerous drivers that have been reported to them"

I've had better luck - they've phoned me back updating me after their contact with the registered keeper, I've received an incident number, or been told to report it to a station in person (who then got all confused when I turned up).

I think it very much depends on who answers the phone...

The Cycling Lawyer has had some success engaging with the police in London, and they've even got a reporting page:

    http://www.met.police.uk/roadsafelondon/

I agree that it would be great if L&B were a bit more consistent on this front!

Oh, and I'm also happy to try and distract you if you do decide to come...

I phoned, went to a Police station and contacted my MSP (Malcolm Chisholm who was most energetic in chasing it up) and all of the people whom I spoke to told me they weren't going to even speak to the driver about it. I am glad you have had much better luck with yours though.

"Oh, and I'm also happy to try and distract you if you do decide to come..."

    Ooh er missus!

I might have to wait and see how I feel on the morning.

I think we should engage the policeman in "proper" cyclists talk. About cakes, cleats, buffs and the like and not let what peoples jobs are get in the way of some cyclists meeting up for the love of cake and coffee and bikes.

Perhaps more contentious issues can be kept outdoors.

Remember to do the elloelloello knee-dip when greeting the police.

Like hub vs. derailleur, disc vs. rim, helmet vs. hair?

I think it's admirable that you can all meet for coffee at that time......I can barely get the kids to school before 08:45......

Not having children, my main problem is getting myself out of bed before 08:45

    mirror vs. no mirror

That's another topic we shouldn't debate!

    Posted 13 years ago #
  21. There will be a new citycycling issue online to discuss, complete with a new store (if I have time for the finishing touches) to promote!

(honestly, possibly kaputnik's best cover yet (and that's saying something) together with the best wee article I've written in a while on the same topic as the cover pic - gonna be great!)

    @Min - "Ooh er missus!"
If there is going to be Ooh-er-missuses happening I will try harder to be there
    @Smudge - Baldies unite!
@Kaputnik - ditto - I will make an excuse that I need to be in work early to be able to dodge the school prep work

"Can you do an audio version"

Should be possible on an iPhone (and maybe others).

    http://appadvice.com/appguides/show/text-to-speech-apps-for-ipad (iPhone too)

Would need one long text page which might be too much for app??

OR anth could stay up the rest of the night and read it and upload to You Tube.

Then you'd have to buy him several coffees.
