Had a request for info on small helmets. (previous discussion went a bit polemical).

Specialized Small Fry Toddler Helmet . Says 47 cm 'up to 3 years'.

TSG Nipper Mini Helmet 48 cm

Met Elfo Kids Helmet 46 cm (TBC) [this is what we got]

Apex Junior Helmet (XS size, 48-52cm). (Amazon)

Morningsider jr. has a Specialized small fry toddler helmet. He has a huge bonce, just like his old man, and is aged 2 and a bit and there is still at least a centimetre and a bit of slack in the helmet adjustor, so should be good for a while yet. Fits nicely and gives good coverage - just try not to nip their neck when you fasten it, it really doesn't go down to well.

Which model is best for not interfering with achieving a comfortable sleeping position?

Can't comment on the rest, but the Elfo has a nice, flat back on it.

@wingpig, I've found the Apex helmets pretty good with their flattened backs. We've tried using these wee travel pillows that fit around the shoulders to stop the issue of the child slumping forward while asleep, with mixed results (ie. screams of "No").

I have a child's helmet [from LIDL] that was never worn. Due to all children having huge heads or only willing to wear pink helmets. Happy to pass it on. Virtually brand new. The helmet I sport at the moment is ridiculously big [and heavy]. Also bargain.

Given previous debates, when I first read wingpig's post I had a fleeting image of concerned parents tucking children up in bed at night with helmets on.

I am still insisting that all children in our Renfrewshire village were issued with white plastic helmets with wee red lights in early 1970s when last an experiment was tried to save daylight

I'll need to try and find time to get him down to tbc, I measured his head as best i could and got 44 so even the smallest one is a bit little.

We have two Halfords Boys Bike helmets for our two. Louis has had his for a year (since turning 2) and it still fits him, as does Camie's who turns 5 in Jan 2012.

The molded peak/visor certainly protected their wee faces when they fell flat on their faces, when they came off their bikes in the past.
