  1. Not a hope, likely to be still sat at my desk here when the laps commence.

I can't make it afraid - it's Mrs Priest's birthday today, not that that's much of an excuse.

(In the queue at the supermarket this morning buying birthday cake ingredients, a young child kept pointing at me and repeating to her mother, "Look! That man's wearing tights!" The mother's face was puce with embarrassment, while I shook gently with silent mirth.)

Anyway, have a lorra lorra fun, as Cilla would say.

Hmm, no takers for tonight yet...

See the previous discussion of Pinonaut grins - also worth noting the opportunity to experience the high road with one of the most uncluttered cockpits possible on two wheels. Only the unicyclists get a better view!

  4. If only I'd taken my bike light to my desk with me - I would have got you to stop just before the descent in view of the Widows building and I'd have morse coded an SOS.

I unfortunately fell asleep sometime before 6 and have just woken up. I'll make next week for sure. Need to test the ultra out on a dark road.
Props for the 4 laps. Hardy men!

  10. Left work at about 6.30ish - stopped near the descent to take a few night-spinny-tron-wheel-HUBshots in the hope of catching the eye of passing lapsters - none were forthcoming, rode home.

    none were forthcoming

Ah you probably missed us as we spent quite a while at the top discussing merits of the Pino on first lap, then stopped half-way round so that Laidback could lock up his bike and take up the bomb-aimers position for a second attack.

Was a thrilling downhill although Roibeard discs were smoking...

I do recommend to anyone who wants to try a joint approach to beating the uphill. We got up quite quickly and reckon that with practice could be even slicker.

The Hase Pino experience made interesting comparsion to the oVo tandem which is about to appear on another thread.

    <grin>

I love the smell of brake pads of an evening...

Apparently the "correct" technique is to let her run, then brake hard, rather than ride the brakes. I rode the brakes...

The discs are pretty big - they could be stopping upwards of a quarter of a tonne, but applications for stokers who know no fear are still welcome!

Uberuce seems up for it for next week, and SRD has expressed interest too, so hopefully the weather will hold for a few more weeks.

I won't be taking a stoker down there in wet/icy conditions!

I suggest some form of Cold-War-spycraft marker be placed by people at the St Margaret barrier to signal that there is a lap in progress with the intention of returning.

    A chalk mark?

    A chain of locks?

    Bricks?

Ah! I have it: A brick D-locked to the barrier. Just need someone to source one with a hole in it and carry it to the site.

Anyone fancy a weekend hilly session? Mush stretching of legs will be required after a hard few days of studies. I believe the hill may be just what they need.

With luck I'll have my old racer back on the road by Sunday night. I'll be the Grand Vizier of all gameness for a Hilly Weekend if so.

Who is up for Hilly Tuesday today? Hopefully the wind will have dropped a little.

Gusts of >30mph, so no Pino this week, and probably no me either as I've to prepare for Sunday - I'm "preaching" in Duncan Street Baptist Church (11:00, plenty of cycle parking)...

'Twas a rare moment of weakness to agree - I'm poorly equipped for the task!

Had to come in on the bus this morning as the FRB is closed to highside vehs, double deckers, trailers, motorbikes, bicycles and Pedestrians....

Not that I do anyway with my current commute satisfying my exercise needs.

Given I almost got blown over by a westerly while walking across St Andrew Square this morning, then got a real buffeting from an easterly walking through the gardens past the Melville Monument, I'll probably be giving it a miss this evening unless conditions improve...

The Occupy Edinburgh tent-pitching skills are getting a real test today.

  26. I'll be a no-show as well I'm afraid - got an issue of citycycling to prepare, and running out of available nights!

Whast a cinema? I haven't been to one for over 5 years. Do they still exist? We have wee ones and baby sitters are awffy expensive these days...

Babysitters are now 'registered child-minders'. They need a licence (unless it's a relative or a friend). Hence the expense?

I quite enjoy going to Filmhouse with No.1 son occasionally for their 'Wean's World' series for kids. Some of them are very good. Can't remember the last time I went to a grown ups film though: about 6 years ago I think!
