Might be an issue this evening.

    Arthur is hiding.

    So are the Pentlands.

    Means unlikely to freeze tonight.

  2. Arthur is trying to reveal himself again. Was slightly odd watching the cloud take it over with everything else in sunlight.

So what makes Freezing Fog? I always assumed cloudless = cold and Cloud = Warmer. But I don't recall how freezing fog works. I do know this morning I had to ride without my glasses as my wiper motor was stuck to the handlebars.

Cool. My light testing on Arthur's Seat tonight is going to be atmospheric with all of this fog about.

Nice and clear to the Castle from George Street at the moment, by the way...

I took a picture but can't work out how to get from Flickr into BBcode on my phone.

A baptism of fog for my lights on the way home.

Kaputnik I have similar prob with my phone photos using flickr.

Seems to give too much bbcode, and I have to cut/paste what I need. Was thinking about asking chdot to consider a 'test' site for photos (as flickr seem to change things so often) but suspect that would give him more admin headaches than it was worth.

  12. Pah. There was a great orange-misty view out over the west from here - but we have scaffolding in the way of any view, and I had a conference call at 4 so couldn't go wandering with the camera for the killer shot. :(

Lovely peachy glow in the western sky now.

    Can still see the Castle.

It quite literally just dissapeared out here. Gone.

  15. I genuinely think this is one of the benefits of this site - up to the minute accurate reports on the weather in various points around the city. Remember when the lightning was striking at various points during the summer? All makes planning routes and clothing that little bit easier!

"can't work out how to get from Flickr into BBcode on my phone"

Can you get full site - ie not m.

    If so

Click on pic you want in photostream

    Click on Share

Drop down menu gives you BB and HTML options

    Choose BB and 500

    Copy all and paste

    Discard bits you don't want

All might be poss with m. but never tried.

Back Off-T: posty-Flickr-pic-from-Android possible but only with full-site version of Flickr, I think. Is what I use.

    Posted 13 years ago #
  19. Yep, I use full-version site through Safari on the iPhone - never got the mobile version to give the BB Code easily. I find it really really strange that the Flickr App doesn't have easy fetching of the codes as part of its make-up.

The view from the 2nd floor, c. 330PM.

It cleared very suddenly when the sun set and then built right back up again. I couldn't wear my glasses between Gyle and Corstorphine and Gyle and Dalry (long story why I did 2 commutes this evening) due to the silly amounts of condensation and dazzling effect of fullbeam headlights.

Someone ought to tell drivers that there's a reason cars have foglamp setting and using fullbeams, no matter HOW stupidly bright, will not melt the fog magically away and increase their visibility. Infact, in fog that thick, they can have quite the opposite effect.

I got a puncture yesterday a few minutes from the house so realising I would miss my train I walked back to the house and took the car instead.

On the motorway, particulalry on the way home when it was dark, I really felt that despite the fog most people were going extra slowly and being extra cautious than normal in those kind of situations.

Possibly (or probably?) as a result of the awful M5 crash being fresh in people's minds.

If there is a correlation then it is a shame to think that that is what it takes for people to slow down, and also depressing to think that in a week or two it will probably be situation normal.

Misty this morning. But not foggy. Yet. But looks like its closing in around the Gyle again.

Is it wrong to have actually quite enjoyed riding through the fog last night? Like the atmosphere with your lights cutting through the murk. Just took it slowly too and didn't really feel at risk.

For the really murky part I was on the RBS path, so was probably more of a risk than at risk. :)

Yes. Because I couldn't see anything because I had to take my glasses off from condensation therefore couldn't enjoy myself :/

Ah yeah, that would suck. I did take my lidl eye protector specs off and stuck them in bag pocket, where they subsequently hopped out.

I rode out to Crammond Brig last night and deciding on which routebto take home I looked at my rear light, which was dim and showing no sensible output... I decided that Bagshot road was out - too dangerous, A90 was out as I didn't fancy being blinded again so took the road through Dalmeny Estate. OMG is was VERY DARK and I guess I could see around 7 - 10m at the most? I saw three cars, which I pulled over to let past, and it was spookily dark and quiet appart from the wind wipping past my ears. In S Queensferry I stopped to add a snaplight (which was out of date and the light emitted was pants!!, just as I passes a police car exiting a T junction onto my road heading for Tesco's. They never stopped so I guess they didn't care?

New Batts this morning, nice shiney light.
