"John saddles up with cycle star Sir Chris"

John was presented with the award by Lord Provost George Grubb, who said: "Our aim is to make Edinburgh the most active city in Europe by 2020 and this award to John Paul is a further boost to this ambition."

  2. Oh I just wish they'd stop making such glib meaningless statements....

"readily fluent, often thoughtlessly, superficially, or insincerely so"

Ignoring the fact that the quote may be 'made-up' by a PR person, and assuming there is no "insincere" intent -

a@w is correct with "meaningless statements" - not least because CEC has little idea of how to go about it, or any-joined-up-policies (Cycle Training for all pupils would be a start) or (almost certainly) the money to make it even slightly likely.

In addition there is the question of whether CEC would have an all-encompassing way of influencing the behaviour of 'its' citizens!

    "Dear Mr. Grubb,

I'm pleased to see you want "to make Edinburgh the most active city in Europe by 2020".

Can you tell me a) when Edinburgh will get a new velodrome b) when all P6/7 children will get Cycle Training"

    Should I send it?

    True

Think I'll try a longer version.

He doesn't mention cycling in his "hobbies"

    Though he has done some

They seem to talk about making Edinburgh more attractive for cycling, but where is the action? Actions speak louder than words!
