I'm going to the talk by Mark Beaumont this evening. Is anyone from here going along also?

[Its a ticket only - free event, and is bookup if you haven't already put you're name down.]
CityCyclingEdinburgh was launched on the 27th of October 2009 as "an experiment".
IT’S TRUE!
CCE is 15years old!
Well done to ALL posters
It soon became useful and entertaining. There are regular posters, people who add useful info occasionally and plenty more who drop by to watch. That's fine. If you want to add news/comments it's easy to register and become a member.
RULES No personal insults. No swearing.

....meh.... ;-)
Saw him in Stirling a while back. Really enjoyed it but boy can he talk, so don't go in having just downed a couple of pints or anything like that.
I saw this advertised but wasn't organised enough to get a ticket. Need to pack for going away this weekend anyway. Let us know how it was!

Pls translate.

Sorry not being cheeky or owt. Just a not that interested in Beuamont. read his book which was nice.
He's trying to get folk to sign up for a fully-supported round the world cycle trip. No prices on the website - but I believe its around £30k each.
Well he might get a £5 out of me for his book, but I'm not about to remortgage my house for his jollys...
I went and it was interesting. £34k for the full thing, or anything from £1400 up for a single stage. He's a very engaging talker.
I went too. Isn't he just (an engaging talker), I find him quite inspirational. You are not paying for him to do it, he is not going, not that he was asked if he was actually going to take part in any stage, though during the course of his talk he did mention there were places that he would love to revisit as he sped through them on his round the world challenge. He is off on his next adventure which is rowing the Atlantic, having just returned from rowing in the Arctic. Also the question was not asked as to whether or not there is already a record for an around the world bike challenge involving a fair number of cyclists all going at the one time in a team, so to speak, but that is what they hope to achieve a world record of a number of cyclists all going around the globe. If only...this may be the once in a lifetime opportunity to do something like this that has support/backup for the entire journey.
If I only had the time and the money, I would consider it.
Here's where you can find out more about it...
Oh come on... I asked if anyone was going so I wouldn't be captin lonely .....
I was the guy who asked about music and Dynamo hubs...
If I was single, didn't have children, and had 40k in the bank I'd go for it!
If you sign up now Dave it will only cost you £29.5K, leave it til later and the price goes up!! Bargain...
@DaveC you should know by now that if you present the forums with a can of tasty worms then it will have no difficulty opening itself :)
I offer the following wise words;
(But with the greatest respect to the adventurous Mr Beaumont, if I was in a position to cycle around the world, I personally would want to do it through my own grit, determination and resourcefulness - and not out the back of a broom wagon)
Speaking on Radio Scotland at 14.05 today if anyone wants to hear him.

What's the point to going around the world if you skip two whole continents? (rhetorical question)
