I managed to squish the bike (but not the bairnseat) into the car (which is hurtling scarily northishwards on the A9 at this very second) so might have the odd hour here and there over the course of the next few days with which to get some exercise/investigate things in between visiting Invernesian neices and nephew. Are there any particular things anyone would especially recommend in that general sort or area?

From Aviemore to the ski centre and back. Cake at cafe by campside at Loch Morlich.

    Cycling over to Lochindorb.

If you have a mtb, there lots of trails in the Rothiemurcus/FC forests.

A pub lunch in The Old Bridge Inn. Great food and always a nice beer or two on tap.

Its a Lovely ride north but it doesn't appear to run in November...

    +1 both suggestions.

Two good mtb passes over by green loch, some tough stuff.

Trails round morlich etc are flat enough for kids. Also a route from OBI to boat of garten via golf course is ok.

Cheap trail maps at bothy bikes rothiemurcus. Hire bikes there, or mikes bikes aviemore.

If you need cheap digs, bunkhouse is next to old bridge inn, same owners. P.s. if you eat at OBI, no need to book lunch, but busy at dinner.

P.s. OBI also has live bands weekends, last time up we saw The Banana Sessions - excellent !

Mmmta. Child is under self-propelled cycling age and has no bike and no seat on mine. Mine is a road bike. Available odd hours will almost certainly be in darkness. There appears to be plenty of mobile data so I'll be able to inspect the OS mapapp regarding the local B-roads' gradients.

wo good mtb passes over by green loch

If you get even semi-reasonable light one day, well, well worth taking the cycle up from Aviewmore to Loch Morlich and, past the Glenmore Lodge in direction of Pass of Ryvoan to the Green Loch (An Lochan Uaine.

    It really is a stunning wee lochan and the colour of it in sunlight has to be seen to be believed. When I worked up there 6 years ago I only had a rubbish camera so none of my photos really worth it, but here they are anyway;

Go to the far end (away from the viewing platform). Better view and quieter and you can sit on the wee beach and eat your lunch.

You could walk a section of the Speyside way. It's probably bikeable too, slowly.

Early morning cycle to Loch Garten to get the sunrise. Also stunning, the loch is so flat and gets brilliant reflections. Walking round to Loch Malachie again is a little bit off the trail and more secluded.

Alas Heather Brae hotel in Nethybridge is long closed as it was good for a bar lunch.

Grantown-upon-Spey to pick up some tweeds.

@kaputnik, think we are talking same route. Can be stunning. This was on my phone, so a good camera would be amazing.
