"Yet again, almost 75% of private cars contained only a driver – occupying far more of the precious roadspace than a person commuting by bike."

I saw this, and thought that last year was it not very snowy and slushy...and this year so clement! All good though. Are we getting through, or is it that petrol/derv prices are beginning to bite, more students, people just fed up of being stuck in traffic due to the tram mess? Lots of reasons I suspect a bit of all of them.

How many of the record numbers of cyclists transferred from car to bike and how many from public transport to bike I wonder (simple counts can never determine this).

Actually I don't wonder, I think I can hazard a pretty good guess.

Yeah, petrol must be really expensive, huh. People can't afford to drive to work. Not.

And for the first time ever I think, I was one of the counted! I spotted AlanR helping out as I was making my way to the Castle this morning. Good work by Spokes for getting the results out so quickly.

I transferred, but only from monstrousbike to tiny little baby bike.

And it's fewer. More bikes, fewer cars!

Quite so. One would have expected better from Spokes!

In wasn't counted but did see a coupe with bikes at the 5 ways north of Broughton on the cycle path on my way to work yesterday. I did wonder if they were counting but didn't stop to ask.

It comes down to how much road space TfL is prepared to give cyclists. On far too many roads and junctions, the engineers' priority is to get as many motor vehicles through as fast as possible. Yet as statistics earlier this year showed, cyclists now outnumber cars on several Thames bridges during rush hour. When will Boris give us the space and the safety we deserve?

Edinburgh survey shows marked increase in cycle commuting

Record numbers of cycle commuters may not be sustained if government cuts go through.
